Nets Make History; Hawks Torch the Raptors for 146; and More!

With 10 games slated for tonight, here is the wrap-up for the first five games played on Wednesday:

Mavs 117, Nets 101
History has been made ladies and gentlemen.  With tonight’s loss, the New Jersey Nets dropped to 0-18, the worst losing streak to start a season EVER.  The Nets next goal should be to beat the all-time longest losing streak held by the 1998 Denver Nuggets and the Vancouver Grizzlies’ during their inaugural season in 1995-1996 (23 game losing streak).  The Nets were able to stay with the Dallas Mavericks (14-5) …

Ron Artest is the Craziest Man in the NBA…EVER

The following quotes are REAL and will be in the next issue of Sporting News.  Steve Greenburg met up with Ron Artest for this interview in which Artest admitted to some interesting things.
Apparently Artest admitted that he used to drink alcohol…AT HALFTIME, while with the Bulls!  How did anyone let him get away with this, and how did no one notice?
“I used to drink Hennessy … at halftime.  I (kept it) in my locker. I’d just walk to the liquor store (near the stadium) and get it.”
While at St. John’s …

Sixers ‘Answer’ Prayers…Sign Iverson

He’s back. I’m not talking about the classic ‘Alice Cooper’ song, but instead the return of one of the greatest small guards to ever play the game…Allen Iverson. Not only is A.I. back, but he’s back in Philly where he belongs. When Duts broke the news earlier this morning, instead of adding to his information like I was supposed to do (as the staff Sixers’ fan), I was busy looking up YouTube videos of A.I.’s greatness, while bumping his classic hip hop hit, ’40 Bars.’ Allen is scheduled to play …

Psychology of the Buzzer Beater (Part 2 of 2)

In my last entry, I discussed the psyche of an NBA coach and player during the strategy process for a one possession opportunity to win the game. At a glance, this decision may be easy, but when considering uncontrollable forces, ah let’s say… the officials, it can alter everything. Throughout this post, an outcome or conclusion was drawn, and a new strategy can be developed to not only supply success, but create a perspective not seen by most. A perspective that yours truly, The Ref would like to discuss even …

Knicks 126, Suns 99
At Madison Square Garden the Knicks (4-14) came out hot and give the Suns (14-4), who had the best record in the NBA, a 126-99 loss.  Danilo Galinari led the Knicks with 27 points and 10 rebounds.  He was an impressive 6-12 from behind the arc.  David Lee and Al Harrington also scored in double figures, scoring 24 points and 22 points respectively.  Lee and Harrington both grabbed 8 rebounds in the winning effort.
Steve Nash was the only bright spot for Suns scoring 20 points and dishing …

What’s Bigger Than a Game? A Meaningless Record

On Saturday night, long-time Cavaliers C Zydrunas Ilgauskas sat the bench against the Mavs. Is this news? Well, ask LeBron James if it is. Done asking? Well, then you know that it is NOW news, because ‘The King’ said so.
Head coach Mike Brown chose to sit Big Z to favor a smaller, quicker lineup that he noticed was playing well against the Mavericks. What’s the big deal? Well, Ilgauskas is currently tied with current Cavs GM Danny Ferry with 723 games played with the franchise. For whatever reason, this really …

Rookie Rankings: Week 5

Each week NBAtoday.net compiles a list of the top 10 rookies in the NBA. Leave a comment on your top rookies of the 2009-2010 season!
Added to the rankings: Taj Gibson
Dropped from the rankings: Chase Budinger
1. Brandon Jennings – Jennings and the Bucks slipped up a little last week, but Jennings still makes it look like he’s been in the league 10 years.
2. Tyreke Evans – I was so close to pumping Evans up to #1; the Kings went 3-1 last week largely due to Evans play and his ability to get to the …
