What to Watch for: Jan 18 – 25

Last week was a tremendous week in the NBA. So many close games and we had some great multiple overtime thrillers. This coming week has even more great matchups, including my personal favorite and certainly what should be a favorite of the whole NBAtoday staff – the Thunder at the Grizzlies! Can’t wait, but let’s get to the games…!
Monday
Since it is Martin Luther King Day, Monday is jam packed with 12 games starting as early as 1pm EST and finishing with a triple header on TNT. And these games get …

Blake Griffin Out for the Season

Blake Griffin, this season’s #1 pick, is out for the year (joining 2007 #1 pick Greg Oden).  Just when everyone in Clipper Nation thought their savior was coming back to action in the next few weeks, Griffin was experiencing discomfort in his left patela, which was the original injury.  He will miss the season with surgery and will need 4-6 months for rehab.
After Griffin was examined Tuesday by doctors it was determined that the left patela didn’t heal at the excelerated level it should have and he will need to …

LeBron Leads Cavs Past Trailblazers in Throwback Fashion, Spurs and Lakers Cruise

Cavs 106, Trailblazers 94
First off, I’d like to say I honestly thought Craig Ehlo was in the game. The throwback unis the Cavs were wearing reminded me of the Cavalier teams in the early 90s.
That being said – LeBron was scorching hot, shooting 10-12 and scoring 31 in only the first half. It must’ve been the shoes – which were Knick orange and blue (he can deny it all he wants).  The first half had everyone happy in Cleveland – even Shaq kissed and hugged a fan in a front …

Point Guards Dominate Tonight: Paul, Rondo, & Davis All Lead Their Teams to Victory

New Orleans 115, Washington 110
Watch out NBA, the Hornets are back to their winning ways. They are becoming a force to be reckoned with.
After tonight’s victory against the Wizards (12-23), the Hornets (19-16) are 16-8 after starting 3-8. Pretty impressive for a team that looked dead in the water when Chris Paul went down. Talking the about gentleman himself, he had another terrific night, 26 points, 14 assists, and 3 steals. The man is unbelievable. He did get support tonight though. Six players for New Orleans were in double figures, including …

Game of the Year

Boston 112, Miami 106 (OT)
What a game tonight! I don’t know what any of you guys were doing, but if you missed the end of this game, it is a regret you will have to live with.
Miami has been struggling of late, and the Celtics face their worst injury trouble since bringing both Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen two short years ago. However, the C’s obtained Rajon Rondo and Pierce back for tonight’s game and boy, did they need them.
The game was back and forth throughout, each team bestowing masterful …

NBA Suspends Wizards G Arenas Indefinitely

NBA commissioner David Stern has suspended Wizards G Gilbert Arenas indefinitely for his poor judgment in bringing guns to the arena. Well, not just that, but also for the report of pulling a gun out on teammate Javaris Crittenton in the locker room. Whether or not that was true (which Arenas says was done as a joke), Arenas is creating an unfortunate image for NBA players and a poor model for children to follow.
I was surprised that Stern didn’t make this decision sooner. I expected Arenas to be suspended indefinitely …

Hibbert is Howard’s Kryptonite; Wizards Able to Hold off Sixers; Wallace and Jackson Lead Bobcats

Pacers 97, Magic 90
When I saw that the fans voted for this game on NBAtv I thought to myself, “What a horrible game to pick.  Without Granger and Murphy the Pacers have no chance.”  Boy was I wrong!  This is the beauty of the NBA in the regular season.  Any team can be any other team despite their records.  The Indiana Pacers were able to limit Dwight Howard to six shots (2-6 from the field) and kept him in foul trouble all night.  Roy Hibbert provided the aggressiveness that this …
