LeBron James: The Decision of a Lifetime by a Phony for the Ages

Thank God this is over.

All day I’ve been dreading this one-hour ‘special’ based on the idea that LeBron would do everything in his power to make himself the focal point of the world for one hour. How he could think a one-hour special was a good idea is beyond me.

So LeBron has made his decision. He will go to the Miami Heat to join four other players. Luckily for him two of those guys are Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. When the news came out on Wednesday that Wade and Bosh would sign with the Heat, that apparently wasn’t the right time for LeBron to announce his intentions. He had to do this on his own stage, all alone. The focus had to be on him. He had to upstage everyone else. He had to feed his ego even more.

Is this new? Absolutely not. Our website, NBAtoday.net, started up right before the start of this past season. Anyone who has followed the site knows my dislike for LeBron James. I’ve had many articles that have covered various aspects of this past season that have simply annoyed me. It started back in November when LeBron was playing Wade in Miami and certain #23 was in the crowd. Then he went back on his word regarding the dunk contest in December. It all came together back in January when I saw him in person for the first time. When LeBron was eliminated from the playoffs, it was amazing. But along the entire ride of the 2009-2010 season, I have seen right through LBJ and realized he is a major league phony.

Up until Thursday, July 8, 2010, other people have not come out and expressed the same feelings as I have throughout the entire year. So what’s been bothering me all day is that people are finally coming out and recognizing that LeBron’s ego is bigger than the oil spoil in the Gulf. In fact, I’d rather have oil balls washing up on my shore than LeBron James jerseys. The idea of him makes me cringe. His arrogance, his cockiness, his general demeanor. These are all characteristics that drive me crazy; but all together? I would have never thought that was possible before he came into the public eye.

Who is to blame? I’m not going to say this is simply LeBron (although it IS him). ESPN created this monster from Day 1 – Day 1 being when he was back in high school and his games were televised on TV. Now they decided to feed him what he wants up to this moment when they decided to air his decision as if it was a universal address from another planet. Could ESPN had said no to this idea? Of course they could have, but they NEVER would have. Not to mention, I wouldn’t be surprised if they brought up this idea to him to air a special based on his decision. Throughout the way though, he has soaked it up and relished every moment.

So now to his special. I watched it; in fact, I watched the entire thing. I had no choice, really. I had to watch it. Right off the bat, when they showed him for five seconds, I could tell he was nervous. Why be nervous, LeBron? He was nervous because he knew he was rejecting a city that has embraced him for seven years. So that was his tell to me that he was out of Cleveland.

He then went on to say, “I decided this morning.” That is BS. He did not decide that this morning, I don’t care what he says. Then he said he was going to South Beach and there was absolute silence. You would think that there would be cheering or something from the audience, but it was straight silence. Then I took a look at his face and I realized that he was scared and unconfident.

He did not look happy, at all. You would think he would be happy in his decision that he was wooed by everyone and thrown money from all directions. But no, he’s not happy. He realizes what he’s done to the Cavaliers and the city of Cleveland. He tore their heart out and he doesn’t care. No matter what he says, he doesn’t care. He had the opportunity to re-sign with them and everything, but he chose to leave. Now you have to live with that LeBron.

LeBron said that it is all about winning and that’s how he came to his decision (phony). When asked about the idea of the three stars together in Miami and whether it will work out, he said, “It’s not about sharing.” I know what he meant, but that was hilarious, haha. In case you wonder if I’m alone in now disliking LeBron, our boy G, who was basically the only LeBron supporter on our site, said, “I will never type his name on our site again.” That’s pretty serious. And as far as ESPN’s projected 66-16 record, I think I’ll take the under on that one. I’m not going to go into detail, but that just won’t happen.

One of the lasting images for me is when ESPN showed the bar in Cleveland that was in hysterics when they heard his decision to leave town. Then, they turned to a burning LeBron jersey in Cleveland, which was awesome. LeBron said, “It’s time for a change,” which is ridiculous for him to say based on not bring Cleveland a championship. Then in regard to the burning jersey, he said, “I can’t get involved in that… If the Cavs go rid of me would I burn down the Cavs organ-i-zation?” (Did you notice how he said organ-i-zation? Haha) And he continued on to say, “To my real fans…” WOW!! That was real LeBron right there, for once!

I’ll wrap this up saying how badly I will continue to root against LBJ. I need to make it clear that I didn’t hate Dwyane Wade before, but I can no longer root for him and the Heat. Number one, I’m a Nets fan. Number two, I’m a fan of whoever is playing the Heat or Knicks. And finally, number three, I’m a fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers. If I can observe the Cavs beating the Heat in the playoffs in the next five years, I will truly consider myself a WITNESS.

    Why spread the hate?

If the man wants to win a championship let the man decide where he thinks he can get that chance. He gave Cleveland 7yrs. Cleveland did not give him the players that he needed to win period. If they gave him someone live Pau (like what lakers did for kobe) we wouldnt have left. One thing is for sure. You will never witness CLE beat MIA in any playoff game.

Let me start of by saying I’m a huge Nets fan myself.

So now to your article. I read it; in fact, I read the entire thing. I had no choice, really. I had to read it, so I could give you the benefit of the doubt. Sure enough it was littered with statements based out of misplaced emotions.

Who are you to say he didn’t feel bad about leaving Cleveland? Your “organ-i-zation?” bit just made you sound ignorant and childish; taking whatever he said and turning it around. If you ever want to be taken seriously just sit back, take a breath, and write a well structured article. You sound like a heart broken 15 year old girl writing a heated letter.

Chill out, get off his **** and let the man live.

Ces- Yes, Shooter can be a bit much with his Lebron hate, I have been telling him all season. However, Lebron just became the biggest villian in sports, not just basketball, sports.

Byron- Cleveland did a lot for Lebron, look at all of the moves that they tried to build around him, especially this past year. Shaq, Jamison, and drafting JJ Hickson…they had all the pieces, but couldn’t do it. Mainly because Mike Brown is one of the worst coaches to ever have a winning record and Lebron doesn’t know how to win. But most of it is on Lebron.

My take-This leading to the cop out decision to go to Miami. That’s all it is. Shooter did hit one thing on the nail. The King looked unconfident and startled when he claimed his destination of arrival. He openly admitted he cannot win by himself, he needs help, a lot of help. “I can’t win on my own” claims the King. “I need more than a Scottie Pippen, I need to be surrounded by a superstar.” (Note: These are fake quotes). “I don’t want to be Batman, I always like Robin better anyway.” The fake quotes are endless, but you know what, they old hold water.

For his entire career, he represented he wanted to create his own legacy. How in the hell is he going to do that now when he isn’t the number option anymore? He can’t. I don’t want to hear any comparisons to Jordan, West, Robertson, Magic, Bird, or even Kobe. He doesn’t belong. He doesn’t deserve to be mentioned. Hell, I will be including Wade in that list now before Lebron. Wade is the man on that team, and that won’t change one bit.

The funny thing about this whole situation is everyone predicts the Heat are going to win the title next season. HAHAHAHA…I can’t even contain myself upon the stupidity in that statement. They won’t win until 2013. They have no bench, no point guard, no center, and no 3 point threat. (Mike Miller will get hurt). I am predicting a 50 win season and Eastern Conference finals exit for the next two seasons.

I can go further but…I will post about this soon enough. When I get back from vacation. Article coming out on Tuesday.

I agree whole heartedly with Shooter. (was that Dennis Hopper’s nickname in Hoosiers?) LOL I forget. BTW that is the greatest basketball movie of all time. Rent if if you haven’t seen it.

I just question why, if he was to leave why he didn’t go to a team where he can lead the team to glory like NY ? This Miami team if they win is basically just another 2009 NY Yankee team. Buy a bunch of studs and win a title. I am praying against this happening. In fact I will even root for the Lakers if they play each other in the finals.

A renewed Heat Knicks rivalry would have been nice. Amare and Lebron vs Wade and Bosh?

Did anyone see the extended video of the jersey burnings on CNN? I couldn’t believe my ears when one idiot said, Is this worse than 9/11? Omg I almost lost my lunch when that came out of his month. At least the other fan being interviewed scoffed at that ridiculous statement.

My ultimate fantasy this year is for the Heat to be the #1 seed and the Cavaliers to be the 8 seed and somehow the Cavs play like there lives are on the line and beat the Heat. That would just be unreal to watch.

And what about Gilbert’s address to the Cleveland fans? If that is legit that is some true honesty spoken for once! I couldn’t believe his guarantee of the Cavs winning a title before Lebron does. I hope he is correct and I always hated the Cavs. (well at least since the Prince was there). Skip Bayless is the man! lol

Do you guys know if Lebron signed another deal with an opt out clause?
If he can’t co-exist with these guys and the chemistry is bad maybe he opts out in 2-3 years and we do this again? LOL

Would you welcome him to your Brooklyn Nets in 2012-13?

Speaking of my Nets, its looks like another long dreadful season.
We just can’t by a break. Lose the #1 pick and our free agent Signee is Travis Outlaw. The Nets better just sit on all of that money til next year. Don’t mis-spend it like the Knicks use to do.

I hear there is probably gonna be a lockout after this year and from what I hear it could be a long one. The owners will have no plans to give in.

I can’t wait for Miami at Cleveland. Christmas Day? Opening Night?
I can’t wait to see the Cleveland fans serenade their fallen Prince.

    Ces,

It’s easy for you to call Shooter a ’15 year old girl writing a heated letter’ because this is probably the first article you read from Shooter about Mr. Lebron James. If you have the time go back in time on this website and read all of Shooter’s article about Lebron and this response won’t be a surprise to you and frankly you’ll have a more balanced and ‘well structured’ opinion on the writer you claim did not write a ‘well structured’ article.

Everyone has a right to their opinion. Just because it doesn’t align with yours does not mean theirs is invalid.

That’s what BLOGGING is all about. Express yourself but respect other when they do the same bro.

    Chill out!

Kehnee, I know you are trying to defend Shooter, but if Ces did go back to read all of his articles about Lebron, his aggression against Shooter would become worse. A lot worse. Shooter’s hatred and strong opinion against Lebron is extremely transparent. Even Shooter himself knows he can get carried away with his view point on the man, but that’s blogging. He has every right to do that, but it can go overboard like my love for Kevin Durant and Ray Allen. It is all opinion and Ces has every right to his. That’s also what blogging is about: opening others to your opinion and welcoming theirs, regardless of emotion conveyed.

This is obvisously a sensitive subject for a lot of fans and for good reason…restricting one’s opinion is simply wrong.

I was going to make a whole other post, but instead I’ll just tag my thoughts here. This whole season, I backed LeBron as much as anyone, through all of his cockiness and immaturity. Even after this decision, I still respect him as the great player he is, but now I concede that he is indeed a doofus.

I’m basically just disappointed in him. If he had went to any other team, I would have been OK with it. Instead, he diminished his entire legacy going to South Beach and will make NBA 2k11 Online Play unbearable next year (lol).

  • Kehnee said:

Thanks Ref for basically repeating everything I said. That was really deep.

I just want to be clear, this isn’t aimed towards LeBron, it’s aimed towards someone who would do a special like this. Keep this in mind, no one has ever done this in history including the two other stars that signed two days ago, Wade and Bosh. LBJ’s arrogance and need for attention led to him doing this. And in his sake, he happens to have a terrible track record.

  • Marty/Dad said:

Ces…How could you possibly write that Shooter’s article on LeBron’s ridiculous show last night, made it appear he was writing from the perspective of a “heartbroken 15-year-old girl”? If you followed his writings on “The King” since this website began, you would know that, far from “heartbroken”, yesterday’s events made Shooter’s day!

And as far as “letting the man live”: the fun is just beginning!

  • Shooter (author) said:

That was a terrific comment Windex Glass Cleaner. I don’t want to hate on his decision at all, because he can do whatever he wants. But that is what made people lose more respect for him by not staying in Cleveland and essentially not even considering it.

If he had said that quote that you put at the end, then I would have gained a lot of respect for him.

    But……he didn’t.

  • The Ref said:

And that Windex Class Cleaner, is the most balanced and executed statement I have seen or heard from anyone on this subject. Kudos

BTW: Did you misspell Bosh on purpose because you think he is a tool?
