What Would 4 Big Free Agents Have to Discuss?
The summer of 2010 is surely going to bring up a lot of rumors and questions due to the high amount of free agents in the NBA. Owners and other team personnel are not allowed to discuss these questions and create rumors due to the NBA’s anti-tampering rules. However, players are apparently allowed to do this, based on Dwyane Wade’s plans for the summer.
A few weeks back, future free agent Dwyane Wade came out publicly to say that he and the other big free agents would discuss together what their signing plans will be. Wade said he would be joined by LeBron James and Joe Johnson in these discussions, and Chris Bosh said he would want to join them.
I was wondering what these meetings would truly accomplish.

Could they be discussing a mutual location that they would all take a pay cut to end up at? I wouldn’t expect this, mostly because they have been looking forward to free agency for so long in order to break the bank. Not to mention, the players association would kill them for not milking it.
Could they be trying to simply find out what others are thinking? This is the most likely situation. They don’t want to be caught in the dark trying to sign with the same team that can’t afford two of them. Also, if they are trying to find a mutual spot, they’ll know if it could work out and if it’s work it.
Then again, they’re probably all getting together simply to decide that none of them will go the Knicks.
I really don’t want to speculate on what I truly think these guys are going to be doing, so I leave you with an fabricated meeting between these big free agents. After this meeting, they won’t need any other meetings… you’ll see:
—Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Joe Johnson, Chris Bosh enters room—
D-Wade: I’m glad you all could join me in deciding where we will be next year.
Bosh: Can you guys let me know where you’re going, seriously.
Joe Johnson: Please don’t want to come to Atlanta guys. I need to go.
D-Wade: We’re just not going to go to New York, right? The Knicks suck.
LeBron: But I can be king of New York!
D-Wade: LeBron, you were king of Ohio without winning anything. Don’t think it will be that easy in New York!
Bosh: Hey, guys, for real, don’t forget to include me in on this. I can’t take another situation like Toronto.
Joe Johnson: Hey, include me too! I need more help than just Jamal Crawford…

LeBron: What if we all go to Cleveland. I really like it there…!
—All four pause—
Collectively: HAHAHAHAHA!
D-Wade: Miami has never and will never boo me. Oh wait, I’ll never actually give them a reason to boo me.
Bosh: Listen, I’ll go to Cleveland, I’ll go anywhere. I just need you guys to be there too. I’ll be so mad if you forget about me.
—Chris Bosh leaves the room—
LeBron: Umm, yeah, I’m not staying in Cleveland. I’m more likely to go to the Clippers.
Joe Johnson: I’d rather go to Europe and play than stay in Atlanta.
LeBron: Europe… that’s a whole other country. They probably don’t even know I’ve never won anything. It’d be like a fresh start and I know they’ve had real kings over there. Maybe I can make it official so people can’t say I’m not really a king.
D-Wade: My crazy ex-wife doesn’t live over there. I’m liking this.
LeBron: So it’s settled. We’re going to Europe to play in 2010-2011.
—Joe Johnson, LeBron James, and Dwyane Wade leave room—
—Chris Bosh re-enters the room—
Bosh: What’d I miss? ….. Guys?
