Subs Push Celtics Past Lakers

Celtics 96, Lakers 89 (Series tied 2-2)

I feel like I’ve written a wrap up very similar to this one before. Oh wait, that’s because I have, haha. In the Suns-Lakers Western Conference series, the Suns were able to steal a couple victories away. This was largely in part to the play of the Suns’ reserves such as Goran Dragic and Jared Dudley. Well tonight, the Celtics capitalized on the Lakers reserve weakness with a heavy dose of Nate Robinson and Glen “Big Baby” Davis.

Kobe Bryant scored 33 points and Pau Gasol scored 21. This should seal the deal for an L.A. victory, but Davis’s 18 off the bench, half of which in the fourth quarter, in addition to Nate Robinson’s 12 points. Let’s not forget that four more Celtic players scored double figures compared to the Lakers having three (Bryant, Gasol, and Odom-10 points).

Bynum played a low 12 minutes, scoring only 2 points in this game. In my eyes, this was a huge factor in this game. Without all of that height and length on the court, Boston was able to play their smaller big man to compete against Gasol and Odom. It also didn’t help to have the Boston home crowd behind them.

As a Boston hater, I am saddened by this loss, but I can’t help but respect them for the way they won this game. They deserved the victory, and with the series tied, we’ll see if they can head back to L.A. with a one game, series lead.

Game 5 Prediction:

Look for L.A. to win a close one, in a game in which Boston should have won. I can just feel it. Boston will have a shot to win, but blow it, allowing some Kobe-late-game-heroics. Whoever wins game five, wins the series. It’s that simple.
