Hawks Pluck Larry Drew as Next Head Coach

Who?

That’s what I thought when I heard that the Atlanta Hawks had selected Larry Drew as their next head coach. The Hawks have reportedly offered this mystery man (to me) a 3 year deal, worth $5 million. Drew was the lead assistant for Mike Woodson, his predecessor in Atlanta. He has never been a head coach, but has been an assistant for the Lakers, Wizards, Pistons, and Nets. He also played in the NBA for 10 seasons and has a son, Larry Drew Jr., who plays for the University of North Carolina Tarheels.

2 coaches, Woodson= no eyebrows, Tryone Hill= Ugly, Larry Drew=New Coach, Mark Price.

Now that the Hawks have a coach, they can focus on an offseason in which they have to decide if they are going to, and if they can, bring Joe Johnson back to ATL. Usually teams will interview a current assistant just to through the motions, but the Hawks actually signed theirs. I think this is a questionable move, in that I had no idea who this guy was, and that I felt like the Hawks needed a breath of fresh air.

This brings me to my next point. Who the hell is going to sign Byron Scott!?
