Washington Wins Draft Lottery

No this is not a game recap. But the information in the post carries much weight on what is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated offseasons in the history of professional sports.

The Nets, coming off a 12 win season had a 25% chance at winning the first overall pick. Sadly, in usual fashion, the Nets lost out on a chance at changing their franchise drastically. A player like John Wall, the clear cut consensus for the number one overall pick, can help attract coaches, and even star players in this year’s free agent class. Let’s also not forget what a high draft pick does for ticket sales, and overall organization morale.

Let’s take a look at the results of the lotto:

1. Washington Wizards
2. Philadelphia 76ers
3. New Jersey Nets
4. Minnesota Timberwolves
5. Sacramento Kings
6. Golden State Warriors
7. Detroit Pistons
8. Los Angeles Clippers
9. Utah Jazz
10. Indiana Pacers
11. New Orleans Hornets
12. Memphis Grizzlies
13. Toronto Raptors
14. Houston Rockets

Here are my instant reactions from these results:

  • The Wizards will take John Wall, but let’s not forget they have the returning Gilbert Arenas. Mentioning Arenas helps remind us what a horrible year the Wizards had on and off the court.
  • MY SIXERS!!! I literally told Shooter right before they revealed the top three picks that I wanted the second pick. Nothing against Wall, but I like Jrue Holliday. Now the Sixers BETTER draft Evan Turner.
  • I feel bad for the Nets in the number three position. I really think they’re still set to be solid next year, but we’ll see what GM Rod Thorn has up his bag of tricks.
  • The Jazz made it to the second round and have the 9th pick. I’m jelous.

…and now just because:

I’m so heated. I KNEW the Nets wouldn’t get number 1 but the fact that they got #3 and not even 2! 3-14 it doesn’t even matter who you take. Most guys (Favors, Cousins, Henry, Aminu) are going to need a lot of work and won’t be as big an impact player as Wall and Turner in my opinion.

I will be very disappointed if the Nets draft Favors over Monroe. Monroe has so much more upside and the combination of Monroe and Lopez could be so beast in 2 years. THAT combo is the only thing I am looking forward to now that the Nets can’t get Wall (in all likelyhood).

Bashman, you will not be dissppointed if the Nets draft Favors over Monroe. Monroe will not fit into the Nets system, where as Favors is a terrific complimentary guy and instant offense. He has a better upside as well.

And to be friendly, don’t bother looking at the numbers, Favors played with terrible guards and could not illustrate his true potential. You have seen a lot of Monroe and know what to expect, therefore, your opinion on both players is skewed, but I assure you, the Nets picking Favors will pay off dividends.

On a side note, the Sixers and Wizards needed this type of luck to restart their franchises. It was nice to see, and G, the Sixers will pick Evan Turner, don’t worry.

I don’t like Favors game though. Regardless of his guards, when he did get the ball he was too inconsistant and he lacks NBA strength. He is only listed at 6’9″ whichs means he may only be 6’8″. Monroe is 6’11″ with over a 7 foot wing span. I think him and Lopez can team up to be a twin towers jr. of the East… meaning not as good as Duncan and Robinson (for obvious reasons) and they don’t need to be because it’s the East.

I hope that when the Nets do draft Favors (they will) they he proves me wrong. Believe me, I won’t hate him for being a Net and I won’t root against him but I believe Monroe will have a better career and he’s more NBA ready right now because of his post moves, size and strength.

My comment wasn’t approved? I don’t like this new moderated comment thing. I don’t get why mine wasn’t approved. I must have bashed on David Stern and even you guys won’t say nothing bad about Stern.

Did you curse at all in your rant, Y2J? If so, just use asterisks to represent cursing.

We even filter out women’s cleasning products and a plastic penis used for pleasure. It’s just the way we like to conduct our comments.

We apologize for the inconvenience and trust me, we encourage David Stern bashing.

Basher- I see your point, I just don’t think you got to see Derrick Favors very much, and I know how much you love Greg Monroe. I do to, but he will not flourish as a Net.

    We will see though
