‘Los Suns’ Making A Political Statement
The views expressed in this post are of mine, and do not necessarily represent the views of the rest of the NBAToday.net staff. Enjoy!
I’ve heard many times that it is rarely wise to discuss religion or politics with people, so as not to offend them. I pretty much live by this statement, because I feel like a lot of times, debates of these matters turn heated and lead nowhere.
With that being said, I still LOVE the Suns wearing the “Los Suns” jersey’s for their playoff game tonight. In Arizona, controversial legislation has passed that is meant to tighten up on illegal immigration. I think most would agree that this is a good thing. The legislation states that an immigrant can be charged with a misdemeanor without havingĀ proper documentation. So, what’s the big deal? The problem is that officers can request a proof of status based on “reasonable suspicion” AKA “if-you-see-a-hispanic-driving-a-crappy-car-pull-them-over.” (see: racial profiling)
The Suns, led by team owner, Rober Sarver, have made their message loud and clear that they will do their best to honor hispanic heritage on Cinco de Maya, all-the-while sending a message to Arizona politicians that they don’t support the legislation. Supposedly, numerous companies and unions have boycotted travel to Arizona, and incoming college students have begun to look for school elsewhere.
Hopefully the Suns remember that they’re playing a basketball game, and don’t let the pride of politics stand in their way.

I’m looking forward to covering this game tonight.
VIVA LOS SUNS!
Truth: The Suns (including Steve Nash, the Canadian) do not care about the rights of illegal aliens.
they only want to prevent any potential loss of income that might result in hispanics not buying tickets to their games.
