Suns 110, Spurs 102 (Suns lead series 2-0)

When you have a hot hand, you know it. Sometimes it take a little while to warm up, however.

Phoenix turned white-hot in the second half, shooting 8/12 from three. Channing Frye shot 5/6 from beyond the arc, and Phoenix was able to hold serve on their own court. The game was very close up until the Suns were able to start draining shots from all over the court. San Antonio just simply could not keep up the pace.

The Suns rocked quite possibly the coolest jersey’s I’ve seen in a while to show their stance against the immigration laws that had just been passed in Arizona. In my opinion, I am always concerned about the fine line between congress and sports (see: Steroids), but this was for a good cause. I applaud the work of Robert Sarver working to promote diversity, celebrate a Hispanic holiday, and stand out against the Arizona bill.

From a basketball standpoint, this game was a statement game. The Suns showed some inconsistencies in their opening round series against a Brandon Roy-less Portland Blazers. I saw Phoenix’s bench come alive with solid performances by Frye (15 pts, 4 rebounds) and Jared Dudley (11 pts, 6 rebounds). Something that was unexpected, however, was the domination in the paint. Phoenix out-rebounded San Antonio 49-37, and were able to draw more fouls by driving to the hoop and taking a trip to the charity stripe. When they beat you at your own game, you are in for a long night.

Amare Stoudemire led the Suns with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Nash and Jason Richardson both chipped in 19 points, as Phoenix had 6 players in double figures. Tim Duncan led the charge for San Antonio with 29 points and 10 rebounds, and Tony Parker added 20 off the bench. Manu Ginobli was a non-factor shooting the ball, going 2-8 from the field.
