Nuggets SWAT Lakers, Bulls Get Huge Win
Sadly, we are running out of TNT Thursdays. This is depressing.
Regardless, it feels like they always manage to have either the Celtics/Hawks/Cavs/Lakers/Nuggets playing each other on a Thursday, which is part of the reason I enjoy covering this day. Last night was no different. A lot of playoff implications were on the line.
Nuggets 98, Lakers 96 – Carmelo Anthony once again stated his case for MVP. He has the ability to close out game – on the offensive OR defensive side. In this case, his block of Derek Fisher as time expired sealed the win for the Nuggets, who are still trying to catch Utah for the division lead.
Billups added 31 points to his critical block at the end of the game, and JR Smith played the game of his life with 26 points on 10-19 shooting. Kobe Bryant (right knee) sat out last night’s contest, let’s hope for the Laker’s sake that injury isn’t serious.
Bulls 109, Cavs 108 – Chi-caaaaaaa-go. The most up and down team this year took a gift from Cleveland tonight and are now tied for the 8th and final playoff spot in the East with 2 games to go. Both teams play on the road, and then basically have a play-in game on Sunday @ Toronto. However, the Bulls play @ NJ before heading north, so one would think they should take care of business against the Nets.
Without LeBron in the lineup, Mo Williams stepped up and scored 35 points and made 11 from beyond the arc. Impressive for Mo – and in my opinion, he needs to do the same in the playoffs when every team focuses on LBJ.
Derek Rose scored 24 points, Heinrich had 23, and Deng had 22 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
This is the Commish and despite no more TNT Thursdays this season, I still love them.
