News and Rumors: NBA Admits Refs Miss Durant Call, Manu Signs Extension, & More
NBA to OKC Thunder: “My Bad”
Did anyone here watch that incredible Jazz/Thunder game on Tuesday night? It was as entertaining a game as there has been all season, and luckily I got to see most of the end on NBAtv. Only problem was, they went to a commercial instead of continuing their bonus coverage of the game on Fan Night, so the last play of the game wasn’t live. For a non-buzzer beater, this was almost as entertaining as the Duke/Butler NCAA final.
With a second left, Kevin Durant’s arm got hit preventing a true follow through as he put up a three pointer for the win. The ball came up well short of the rim and the Thunder came up short in the loss. I think The Ref might have choked on his whistle in shock after this one. It was an obvious missed call, which on Wednesday, the NBA agreed that the call was missed. This doesn’t make up for the game, and it might even make the Thunder feel worse. An OKC fan can only hope that this puts a chip on their shoulder as they enter their first playoffs since moving from Seattle.
Elbow to the Face Leaves Bosh OUT
Not that the Raptors had any chance of going past the first round, even with Chris Bosh in the lineup, but big man and face of the franchise (for the next couple months until he leaves that is) will be out for the rest of the regular season, and possibly a few weeks after. This comes after he took an Antawn Jamison elbow to the grill. First Andrew Bogut is knocked out for the season ending the Bucks chances, but now this. The East playoffs could really suffer due to key players getting hurt. As if it wasn’t bad enough against the West. Let’s hope that’s not how he ends his tenure in Toronto!
Tidbits:
- Manu Ginobili has signed a three-year extension with the Spurs for $38.9 million. It is the maximum amount that the Spurs could have offered him, and I gotta say that Manu is happy. He has been the MAN for SA over the last few weeks, and due to guard injuries (Tony Parker, George Hill) he has had to play some point guard too.
- When it comes to the West playoffs, Mavs owner Mark Cuban says, “We know we can kill anybody.” Ok, I’m taking this out of context, but I’m sure he would do the same to me if he had the chance.
- In future NBA news, five University of Kentucky boys are leaving early, including freshman John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins and Eric Bledsoe. The thing that annoys me is that John Calipari will just replace them with a ton of other freshman. Also, National Player of the Year Evan Turner leaves Ohio State too. The Nets better get Wall AND Turner, haha.
