Celtics Surge and Denver Collapses

11 April 2010 365 views One Comment

Before I get into tonight’s wrap ups, there were no exciting games as it was blowouts galore last night, and everybody loves that. There were a total of 8 games but only two are worthy to be mentioned. Anyway, let’s get to the action.

Boston 105, Milwaukee 90

Milwaukee has been playing well since Andrew Bogut went down, but tonight, they ran out of gas in the 4th.

Going into the final quarter, the Bucks were only down three, and they were playing well at home, which is usually what they do. However, Paul Pierce decided he had seen enough. Pierce went off and took over the game finishing with 24 points. I first considered this outcome a surprise for the Celtics, especially with Milwaukee’s great home record (28-12), but then I remembered that Boston plays so much better on the road this year (26-14). That’s the second best record in the league. Incredible when we constantly think this team has problems. Well, they do, but I guess life away from Boston is simpler and easier. I don’t know. It’s just very odd when for the past two years, they couldn’t lose at home, now it’s almost an expected occurrence. The postseason is going to be interesting to say the least for the 2008 champions.

San Antonio 104, Denver 85

Well, thank you Denver, your 2-1 week caused me to go 2-1 in our podcast predictions for the first time since the beginning of February. Therefore, I am beyond satisfied with you getting wally womped by the Spurs.

The crazy thing is when Basher was picking the winner of this game, he made a great point about how San Antonio always loves to disappoint right when you think they are back. It caused Shooter to change his pick, and it almost did the same for me. It’s been very true all year.

But, the Spurs are back, and they are in championship form and to clarify “championship form” they are playing at their very best when it matters most. Will it get them a championship? Possibly, they are definitely putting themselves into contention, because nobody wants to play them right now. Nobody, and right now, they would be facing off against the Mavericks and would have a terrific shot of winning. San Antonio proved that tonight as they went into Denver and dominated them.

The Nuggets were frustrated and got embarrassed on their home court. A rare feat by any means, Denver is 33-7 at home, but played like a bunch of amateurs against San Antonio. Besides Chauncey Billups, the team was a no show. The frontcourt of Nene and Kenyon Martin combined for an impressive 9 points. That’ll win you a lot games with that play. To defend the Nuggets though, they had a really tough week and played some of the best in the West. They lost concentration and let one go. It’s not supernatural for this happen. It’s just bad timing. The Nuggets are now tied with the Jazz for the lead in the Northwest Division.

Let’s see who finishes strong…

This is The Ref signaling I’m out until now and remember: We miss calls, you miss lay ups.

    – To an extent, yes. Boston fans put a lot of pressure on their teams to win. They expect it.

…personally, I’m going to disagree – I’d move back home in a second. hahaha.
