Things You’ll Never Believe on Saturday: Final Score in Mavs Loss to NY, Scola’s Amazing Night, and more!

Knicks 128, Mavericks 94

Wow.

I turned on this game with 5 minutes left in the game, and I have to say that the score I saw was the ABSOLUTE opposite of what I was expecting. Why would I think that? Well, maybe you’ll recall a massive beat down over a month ago in New York in which the Mavericks beat the Knicks by 50! So, naturally, I would expect the Mavericks, a team on a 13-game win streak and on their home floor, to win by 34, not the Knicks.

So what gives? Why’d the Knicks kill it today? I’ll give you one reason – field goal shooting. Dallas shot only 42% and New York shot an incredible 56%. Hence, a 34 point blowout.

Wow.

Nuggets 125, Grizzlies 108

So last night I pointed out that the Grizzlies had to stop allowing big leads to fade away, despite still winning most of those games by a slimmer edge. Welllll, that came back to haunt them tonight as the Nuggets came back from a 12-point deficit in Memphis.

Denver came back with a 17-point run that carried over from the third quarter into the fourth. J.R. Swish was a big contributor in that run by scoring 19 of his 30 points in the second half. J.R. shot 7 of 10 from the three-point land. That man can start and end a run on his own. Swiiiisssshhhhhhhh.

Rockets 116, Nets 108

Holy Scola Batman!

The Nets had no answer for Luis Scola on Saturday night, as Scola torched them for 44 points on 20-25 shooting from the field! That’s absolutely incredible!! Needless to say, 44 points is a career high for Scola and a season high for the Rockets. Oh, and the man added 12 rebounds with it too.

The funny thing about the Nets Texas trip this year is that it’s probably been their most successful Texas road trip in years – and they haven’t even won a game. They have been in every game though, which DOES count for something if you are 7-59.

Some other quickies from Saturday night:

Spurs 118, Clippers 88

Pistons coach John Kuester

Pistons coach John Kuester

16 straight wins for the Spurs over the LA Clippers, that sounds about right. George Hill did his best Tony Parker impression by totaling 14 points and 11 assists for the Spurs.

Hawks 112, Pistons 99

Score after one quarter 30-12 Hawks. Pistons suck, and I love it.

Magic 109, Wizards 95

Who’s got the longest winning streak in the NBA, now that the Mavs have lost? It’s Orlando, who has now won 8 straight games. Dwight Howard led the charge with 28 points and 15 rebounds for the Magic.

Warriors 124, Raptors 112

Scoringggggg…. that’s the feature in this game. The two young guards for Golden State lit it up: Monta Ellis had 31 points and Stephen Curry dropped 35 points with 10 assists. Each had five three-pointers!

The Rockets will everything they can get from Luis from now onwards if they were to avoid from missing the play offs this season (please check out my post on Luis). If he can replicate a performance like this, then why not? Apart from this, some quality support from the rest of the Rockets cast will not harm their chances.

I have a few things to add about this week in basketball as I am reporting LIVE from Galway:

    1. I should never pick games again. I am excellent at scouting players and seeing teams over a long period of time achieving great success or failure, but from a game to game basis. It’s embarrassing. I am worst than the Swami. It’s shameful I even have to reduce myself to such a ranking, but no denying it anymore since this is the 7th week in a row I am .500 or below with our game preview’s. Bloody hell.

    2. This is fitting New York basketball. They beat both Atlanta and Dallas this week, and looked great doing it. However, I guaran-effin-tee you that they will lose both games to Philadelphia this week. bunch of wankers

3.Scola schooled the s*** out of Brook Lopez.

    4. The Thunder are awesome.

    5. I really looking forward to the Power Rankings. I want to see how different our opinions are from each other. I take much pride in putting them together, but always intriguied to get outside opinion. You can guarantee that I will be checking in tomorrow for the podcast, i don’t think i can listen to it unless i get headphones, and the power rankings.

    6. Keep up the good work gents, I will see you soon.

    7. Go Thunder and Boston sucks.
