Snuggies, Fainting, Stomach Pains, & Contracts Hover Over a Busy Friday in the NBA!

Busy night in the NBA (and for the writers of NBAtoday.net).. Here are some quick wrap ups from Friday night’s best and biggest games!

Cavaliers 99, Pistons 92

It was Snuggie night in Cleveland – you know, those ridiculous ‘blankets’ that go around your arms from the front. Apparently there is a world record for largest gathering of people wearing fleece blankets and it was broken last night. The criteria: each person must own it (hand out from the game), they need to wear it for five minutes, they must be the same color, and at least 250 people have to participate. Well, they did all this, but in reality I thought they just looked like a cult.

The other piece of news out of this game was the collapsing of Pistons G Rodney Stuckey. He was on the walking on the bench and he felt dizzy and sat down. After asking for some water, he fell over into the arms of trainer Arnie Kander. Stuckey was taken to the hospital immediately, where he seems to be OK this morning. Scary stuff. I’m sure most people have felt faint at some point in their life, and it can be truly scary. I hope Stuckey gets better and back on the court soon!

As for the game…..yes, a game was played too. The Pistons led most of the way, but the Cavs came back late. LeBron James had 40 points, 13 rebounds, and six assists to help rally the home team from a 21-ponit deficit.

Raptors 102, Knicks 96

Another freak injury situation occurred, this time before the game as Raptors superstar Chris Bosh was taken to the hospital with stomach pains. Bosh had to miss Friday’s game against New York, but lucky for them, they didn’t need him. Sonny Weems paved the way to victory by leading the team with 20 points off the bench in a game he essentially tried to take over.

Figures Bosh is just ready to return from a six-game stint of missing games with a sprained ankle, and then this happens. I’m sure he’ll be alright though.

The Real 'Great One'

Bobcats 98, Lakers 83

I’m sure the Lakers aren’t panicking, but they have to start to wake up because the rest of the West is not conceding that top spot in the conference. The Lakers didn’t even show up for this game as they shot only 36% and committed 20 turnovers to the Bobcats. Stephen Jackson had 21 points and Gerald Wallace picked up 17 and 10 rebounds. Great win for the Bobcats, whether or not the Lakers came out to play.

NOTE: Phil Jackson called out Pau Gasol before the game for not showing up the last few games. He ended up with 11 points and 13 rebounds in the end. Still not another good game for Gasol.

Mavericks 108, Kings 100

How good are the Mavericks? That’s the question on people’s mind right now as they won again to bump their winning streak up to 10 games. Dirk the Jirk had 31 and 12, but Roddy Beaubois (don’t try pronouncing that) had a career-high 22 points to keep the Mavs on top. Jason Terry missed the game due to facial surgery after injuries suffered in Wednesday’s game vs. Minnesota.

Spurs 102, Hornets 91

I’ve been desperately trying to count the Spurs out of late, but they keep winning games! The Spurs have won three straight games, which to me, feels like the first time all season. They’ve been so incredibly inconsistent! They have swept the season series over the Hornets, who are struggling to hang around the playoff talk.

Thunder 104, Clippers 87

The Thunder won this game, but that’s not what I want to talk about. The Thunder’s budding star, Kevin Durant, says that if he was offered a max contract this summer from the team, he’d take it. Ahem, Thunder, do this. ASAP.
