Another Step in the Right Direction for the Clip Show

Just over a month ago, the LA Clippers excused Mike Dunleavy as their coach, allowing him to focus on being the full-time general manager. Turns out that wasn’t the only privilege they planned on taking from him. Dunleavy was unexpectedly let go as the team’s GM on Tuesday, officially ending the relationship between the Clippers and Dunleavy. Apparently the Clippers organization wanted to make it clear that they are just as frustrated with the recent un-success through an email statement sent from the team:

“The team has simply not made sufficient progress during Dunleavy’s seven-year tenure. The Clippers want to win now. This transition, in conjunction with a full commitment to dedicate unlimited resources, is designed to accomplish that objective.”

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the Clippers did something right! Granted, it was unfair to put all of the blame on Dunleavy, but they needed a scapegoat to prove to their fans that the past is behind them.

Boys Will Be Boys

The NBA has thrown out some fines and suspensions from Saturday’s altercation between the Pacers and Suns in Phoenix. Suns F Channing Frye has been suspended one game for throwing a punch and Pacers F Danny Granger was suspended one game as well for his role in the fight. Earl Watson, Roy Hibbert, and Jason Richardson were all fined for adding to the escalation as well. Granger sat out on Tuesday and Frye will miss the big game versus the Lakers on Friday. Surprisingly the NBA wasn’t too harsh here, but that’s because it could have been a lot worse.

Tidbits:

  • Nothing is official, but Sixers coach Eddie Jordan could be let go before the season is up, despite only a handful of games left. The organization no longer thinks highly of Jordan and may prove to our boy G that he is not a good fit. DUH!
  • Over the weekend, Heat G Rafer Alston left the team by sending a text message to the organization (not sure how you do that exactly). It is clear now that he left in order to watch over his suicidal twin sister, rather than because he lost his starting job. Needless to say, he’s not a member of that team anymore.
  • The last time I saw former Olympic sprinter Marion Jones, she was crying on TV after being convicted of lying about taking steroids. Now she is out of prison and ready to play…basketball? Yes, Jones has officially joined the Tulsa Shock of the WNBA. This should be interesting.
  • Looks like fans of the Knicks are becoming believers. Believers in what exactly – I’m not sure. But the team has announced that in just a couple weeks, the team has taken deposits on 1,800 new season tickets for next season. But who will they be watching?? I really hope they get no good free agents…
  • No rumor here: Kobe is NASTY! He is better than LeBron.
