News and Rumors: Arenas Apologizes to a Magazine?, Fisher Sees a Sideline Future?, and More? (Yes.)

Arenas Admits Punishment Was a Must
Suspended Wizards G Gilbert Arenas told Esquire magazine that he wasn’t using “longevity thinking” when taking out four guns in his ‘prank’ with teammate Javaris Crittenton in December. Ya think? He also wanted to apologize to Abe Pollin, who died in November:
“I called Mrs. Pollin and said, ‘If Abe was still with us, I would’ve had to talk to him, so I’m gonna give you the same respect. I want to say sorry to you. I deserve to be punished. I’ll do everything it takes to get your husband’s respect.”
I’m glad Arenas apologized to people he should actually be apologizing to, but I really hope he thought of doing this outside of a magazine article as well. This is a big deal, and he has to understand how important this subject is. Also, Arenas says he used to have nearly 500 firearms (mostly from a WWI collection he bought), but he put them all but four into storage when he started having kids. I’d advise selling all of them.
Tidbits:
- Lakers G Derek Fisher isn’t looking to retire any time soon, but he might have some plans for the future. He isn’t shutting down any rumors of him becoming a coach one day, a role that I think he would relish in. He is a floor general and he understands the game well, with a good head on his shoulders. Clippers maybe? Haha.

- The Miami Heat are close to filling a roster spot with a former NCAA tournament hero. No, it’s not anyone you’ve ever heard of. It’s Kenny Hasbrouck from Siena, who helped Siena win first round tourney games the last two years.
- Big Baby Davis denies purposely hurting Shaq a few weeks ago, which BB was quoted as saying after Sunday’s game in Cleveland. BB was booed heavily by the crowd for shelving Shaq the rest of the regular season.
- Could Larry Brown make a return to the Philly sideline? It’s being rumored due to Eddie Jordan likely to be fired and Brown not staying with a team for more than six years. Maybe they’d finally build a TEAM, rather than a group of players.
- Despite Josh Howard getting hurt just a few games after being traded, the Wizards are looking to lock him up to prevent his option from being used. The pay would be less, but more years could appeal to Howard who was happy in DC.
