Nets Avoid (Bad) History, Raptors Cling to 8th Spot, & Mavericks Outlast Nuggets

Nets 90, Spurs 84

What more can I say? As a Sixers’ fan, I was secretly hoping the Nets stayed at 9 wins, so that it would make the Sixers’ franchise look less bad. As a friend, I was truly hoping they got the ten wins, because getting 9 wins in any major professional sport in today’s day and age is straight up embarrassing. Not that ten wins is much better…I’m just sayin. Going further, Basher was able to acquire about 3894 tickets to this game, so a good group went. Losers, like myself, were too cool to go. Watching this game on TV, I kept thinking, “I bet Popp wishes he didn’t sit Manu.” This wasn’t a must win game for the Spurs, but at the same time, they need to win these games to lock up a solid position heading into the playoffs. After a high scoring first quarter, the game turned into a nice defensive scrum, in which the Spurs needed a Manu-like answer at multiple points. It also will shock me to say this, but Brook Lopez plainly outplayed Tim Duncan. Lopez had a solid 22 points and 12 rebounds. Terrance Williams and Courtney Lee also provided the extra sparks to get this team that coveted 10th victory. Go Nets!

Mavericks 109, Nuggets 93

Again, to add onto my loser-ness, if I was able to muscle up some balls to do yesterday’s podcast, this would have been a game chosen. I blindly would have picked the Nuggets to win. This would have resulted in a big L for me, so maybe that’s a good reason for not having the podcast (just kidding). Dirk the Jirk was Dirty this game. 34 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds. Caron Butler and Shawn Marion were able to shut Carmelo Anthony DOWN.  Melo’ was held to 10 points on 3 of 16 shooting. The analyst in me will immediately say, “Hey, when Melo scores 10 points, the Nuggets probably aren’t going to win.” With this win, the Mav’s will hold onto the 2nd spot out West.

Raptors 103, Bobcats 101

In this game, we have the offensive minded Raptors against the defensive set Bobbies. If I was to predict this game, I would go with the Bobcats, however, the Jurrasics played big defense down the stretch to win this game. With the Milwaukee Bucks continuously rising, the Raptors had been suffering and definitely needed this game. Chris Bosh came up big this game with 22 points and 11 rebounds. A lot of people, such as myself question Hedo Turkoglu signing with the Raptors. One thing I’d never question is his clutch ability. Hedo hit the go ahead three pointer to seal the deal, and help cement the Raptors’ spot in the playoffs.

Note: From here on out, any game I recap involving the Bobcats will involve a picture of Michael Jordan. #Jordanshrug

G, everyone backed out and Shooter had to stay at work late… no one went. Haha. I’m so mad!

I would like to use this comment section as a place for me to rant, so if you don’t care to read this, I don’t blame you.

As Basher mentioned, I was not at this game either because I had to work late – at a job that I am leaving in less than two weeks. Why did I have to stay? Because I am depended on for everything. What would they have done without me if this was two weeks from today? They would have found a way to survive.

But no, it’s not two weeks in the future, so I HAD to stay at work.

Not only did this prevent me from getting out of work on time, or even a little bit late; but it prevented me from going to the Nets game – a game that made up for how terrible this season has been. All year I’ve been thinking about being at the 10th win to celebrate the avoidance of bad history with an exhuberant sigh of relief.

Did I expect them to beat the Spurs on Monday night? Nope, that’s for sure. But when I realized I wasn’t going to be able to go, did I think they’d win? Yes, I knew something would happen that would make me angry as hell.

Oh yeah, and this is the part that I mention that I was supposed to bring other people. I apologize to them for screwing this up, and keeping them from not only seeing the Nets win, but preventing them from seeing a good game as well.

I had a bit of sympathy for the job I’m leaving, because I know how much they are going to regret not keeping me. Keyword = HAD. I am no longer sympathetic, and to that point I say: “Good riddance”.

Four more games left at the IZOD, starting on Wednesday vs. Phoenix. How much do you want to bet the Nets don’t win anymore home games and I sit on this feeling for the rest of my life?

Shooter…As you said, how much of a chance would you have given the Nets to pull off a victory if you HAD gone? You know how these things work…
That said, just manage to enjoy the fact that your past/present/future (right?) team did NOT either set or tie the worst record of All-Times. Build off that.
