Miami Holds off Lakers, Suns Hand Game to Jazz, and More!

Oh, another night of TNT Thursday basketball, and it sure didn’t disappoint.

Heat 114, Lakers 111 (OT)

To quote a close friend of my and avid Heat fan, “Miami finally got a legit win tonight.”

Dwyane Wade was the answer to Kobe Bryant this time. No, he didn’t try to out-shoot Kobe, who just kept putting up points (he finished with 39). Rather, his ability to create off the dribble is what ultimately won the game for the Heat in OT. While Wade did put up 27 points, his 14 assists showed his dedication to using the players around him to win close ball games. Wade also assisted Udonis Haslem to put the Heat up for good in OT. It was all but over when Jermaine O’Neal drew an offensive foul on Kobe with little time to spare. No heroics this time…

Boy, was this a close one – there were 31 lead changes throughout the course of this game. Both teams were nearly identical in the stat sheet, with the exception of performance at the free throw line. Miami made it count, shooting 81 percent to LA’s 60. Got to hit those free throws!

Despite the Lakers having 6 players in double figures, they just couldn’t seem to keep control of the pace of the game. After Kobe, Derek Fisher was the next highest scorer with 14 points. Lamar Odom (13/11) and Andrew Bynum (12/10) both had double-doubles in points and rebounds.

Quentin Richardson also had a nice game for Miami, with 25 points on 8-13 shooting. Carlos Arroyo finished with 17 points and 5 assists.

Jazz 116, Suns 108

Normally, its not a good night if the only lead you have had the entire game was 2-0.

That’s the situation the Jazz were in – they were behind in this game by as much as 13 points. But Deron Williams and Mehmet Okur helped surge a late comeback in the fourth quarter to help seal the 8 point victory on the road. And by surge, I mean a 41 point fourth quarter. Down by 12 in the fourth, Okur iced a 12-0 run by the Jazz with a three pointer to tie the game at 98. Deron helped put the game out of reach by scoring half of his points in the fourth (13 of 27).

Carlos Boozer also played a strong game, with a 15 point, 15 rebound performance. The AK-47 also force a nice turnover late in the fourth to be flagrantly fouled by the Sun’s Brook Lopez on a dunk. CJ Miles also played a nice game off the bench, with 15 points.

For the Suns, Amare Stoudemire led all scorers with 30 points. Nash contributed 14 points an 15 assists but turned the ball over 7 times.  J-Rich added 22 points and 7 rebounds in the loss. The Suns bench, however, had an off night – collectively they only scored 15 points.

Elsewhere in the NBA:

Grizzle-Bears 105, Bulls 96 – Don’t look now, but Memphis has now won 6 in a row away from home. And Zach Randolph is a beast.

Randolph led Memphis with 31 points and 18 rebounds in the win at the United Center in Chicago. Memphis dug themselves a formidable hole too, trailing by 16 in the first quarter behind strong play of Loul Deng (23 points) and Derrick Rose (20 points). But Randolph, O.J Mayo (20 points, 9 assists) and Rudy Gay (17 points, 6 assists, 5 steals) mounted the comeback in the second half on some very hot hands shooting.

This is the Commish, and nothing beats watching Charles Barkley do a post game show at 2 am.
