Manu Tops Cavs, Melo Beats Buzzer, Nets Win No. 9, and More Friday Action!
Busy night in the NBA as the season comes to the stetch run. Let’s take a quick look at each of the 11 games from Friday night – from the fingertips of the SHOOTER!
Spurs 102, Cavs 97 – A veteran team, prepares for the playoffs, against the best in the other conference. That’s the story of the Spurs, who looked to get on track after losing on Wednesday to LA. The Cavs couldn’t hold a fourth quarter, due to Manu Ginobili’s 30 points, many in crunch time.
Nets 118, Pistons 110 – Holy Moly: The Nets are officially not going to be alone as the worst team in NBA history!! For the first time this season, the Nets have won two games in a row, thanks to Brook Lopez and Yi Jianlian’s career high scoring nights. Brook had 37 and Yi had 31, in a game that they just had too much inside intensity to lose. NJ came out of the gates in a lame manner, but they took advantage of a bad team, and now The Ref can put them into #29in his Power Rankings.
Thunder 91, Lakers 75 – Going into this game in OKC, who would be more amped up to play? The Lakers, coming off a win in San Antonio, or the Thunder, who are trying to prove their worth against the NBA’s elite. The Thunder were all over the Lakers on Friday, due the Lakers not showing up. Kevin Durant dropped 26 and Russell Westbrook added 23 for the Thundercats. Calm down Thunder bandwagoners, it’s just one game.
Heat 87, Bucks 74 – The Bucks are slipping a bit, after two straight losses to teams they are better than, but it was a freak play that took their hearts out of this one. Carlos Delfino’ neck/head was accidentally stepped on by Udonis Haslem, which shook up his teammates after he was taken out on a stretcher. Meanwhile, the Heat are winning games and finally looking like a legit playoff team.
Nuggets 97, Raptors 96 – MELO with the buzzer beater! The Raptors blew a comfortable lead, in which only 15 points were scored in the fourth (not good). This set the stage for Carmelo Anthony, who miss a jumper earlier on the same possession, got it back, and shot up a fade away from the foul line with less than a second left to beat the buzzer and the Raptors on the road.
Pacers 122, Jazz 106 – Vroom vroom! Danny Granger scores 44 points as the Pacers pull off the upset at home. I’ll say the Jazz took the night off during the NCAA’s takeover of their arena.
Celtics 94, Kings 86 – I could care less about this game than Pacers/Pistons – is that weird?
Sixers 105, Hawks 98 – Don’t ask me how the Sixers beat the Hawks, because I truly don’t know.
Bobcats 107, Wizards 96 – The Bobcats are making Michael Jordan proud after moving four-games above .500 for the first time in their history. It’s a low point for the Wizards through (MJ’s last franchise), after they lose a franchise-high 14th straight game. The Nets still have one game left with them too!
Suns 132, Knicks 96 – Welcome back to Phoenix Coach D’Antoni – you get to watch a team that can actually play your system well. The Los Suns were out and running as usual, with the Knicks just temporarily standing in their way. Phoenix has won 20 of 25 and six in a row to move them within a half game of the Jazz for home court in the first round.
Magic 106, Timberwolves 97 – The T’Wolves are worse than the Nets. There, I said it.
