Fear the Deer!, CP3 Returns, & Spurs/T’Cats Share 6th Spot #JuneJubilation

What a night of NBA basketball. I can’t even front, March Madness has been wonderful so far. But if tonight’s games shed light on the NBA playoffs, then we should all be just as excited for June Jubilation. (#JuneJubilation FTW)

Bucks 98, Hawks 95

Well, this could be a #JuneJubilation playoff matchup (that would actually take place in April haha) if the season were to end today. The bad news for the Hawks is that these Bucks are super serious. Brandon Jennings is the face and future of the franchise but it’s Andrew Bogut and recently acquired John Salmons who are really making this team legit. Salmons is a hard nosed defender who seems to play well under his hard nosed coach, Skip Skiles. Salmons had 32 points in this game, 16 coming in the fourth quarter where he went shot for shot with Joe Johnson. It almost seemed like the Bucks were running the same exact play for Salmons, and he took advantage every single time. The game was close at the end, and a missed Luke Ridnour free throw allowed for a game winning three attempt, that fell short. Joe Johnson took the final shot, as he scored 27 points for the red birds. FEAR THE DEER!

Hornets 115, Mavericks 99

One of my favorite players, and arguably the top point guard in the league, returned to action after missing 25 games. Chris Paul only played about 20 minutes, but he still contributed through 11 points, including a huge break away dunk amidst a comeback run. Still, Darren Collison was able to hold down the point guard fort tonight with 16 points and 8 assists. David West had 25 points and 10 assists. You gotta love when big men pile up the assists. Even though it looks like the Hornets will fall short of #JuneJubilation, they have to be excited that they’ll be participating in Jubilations for years to come, behind hind the young core of Collison and Marcus Thornton. Oh, and Chris Paul isn’t old…at all.

Spurs 99, Thunder 96

If the Spurs won this game, they would tie the Thundercats for the 6th seed in the West. Kevin Durant must have gotten a crazy pep talk from the Ref tonight because he went OFF. KD the Kid dropped 45 points and truly looked like “the most unguardableplayer on the planet.” George Hill balled hard for the Spurs, notching a career high 27, and Manu Ginobili was there to hit the key shots at key points. The Spurs had a chance to put the game away but Surgin’ Serge Ibaka thunder clapped Duncan’s layup against the glass. Down two, the T’Cats gave the ball to a double teamed Durant who dished it to a wide open Thabo Sefolosha who clanked a three. I can’t fault the shot, because it was an open look, but somehow Coach Scotty Brooks has to draw up a better play. I’d much rather see Durant, Wrestbrook, Green, or Harden take that shot.

Some other scores from around the league, at the time of this post:

Magic 109, Sixers 93 (Who cares?)

Heat 99, Nets 89 (See above.)

Bulls 98, Rockets 88 (Solid win for Chi-town. That’s 2 in a row.)

Raptors 106, Timberwolves 100 (Whatever.)

Jazz 110, Celtics 97 (Kosta Koufos is better than Kevin Garnett.)
