Rookie Rankings: Week 15
Each week NBAtoday.net compiles a list of the top 10 rookies in the NBA. Leave a comment on your top rookies of the 2009-2010 season!
1. Tyreke Evans – A Memphis product, so is Derrick Rose. Who’s better? Evans, hands down.
2. Stephen Curry – Monta Ellis and Maggette are both hurt right now; Curry is expected to take 25-35 shots per game while they are out. That is NOT an exaggeration.
3. Brandon Jennings– Jennings is leading the troops to a 3-2 February record and just 1 game out of the 8th seed.
4. Omri Casspi– Despite his 12-5 averages as a rookie he should not be starting over Jason Thompson.
5. James Harden – Harden is averaging just 8.5 ppg in the Thunder’s current 6-game winning streak but on the plus side just 1.1 turnovers per game in 20 mpg.
6. Marcus Thorton – Last week the Hornets were 0-2 but Thorton averaged 23.5 ppg and 5 apg. He’s one of those instant offense 6-man type guys later on in his career (ie J.R. Smith).
7. Taj Gibson – In 4 games last week Gibson averages 2 blocks per contest but the Bulls were just 1-3. What’s that say about the Bulls defense?
8. DeJuan Blair – In 21 mpg last week Blair’s scoring went up and his rebounding was down (11.7 ppg, 4.5 rpg and a 2-2 record)?
9. Ty Lawson – Denver was 2-2 last week and Lawson averaged just 2.5 apg, coincidence? I think not.
10. Darren Collison – 18.6 ppg, 8 apg in 5 games last week. Chris Paul has finally found himself a nice PG to compliment Paul’s game.

Evans > Rose is way too premature. Rose is faster, a better shooter, better decision maker, and a better passer. Evans is taller and stronger, but come on, he is a terribly inconsistent shooter. Not to mention, Rose’s pre-NBA infraction was cheating on his SAT’s. Evans’ was being the get-away driver for a drive-by murder.
Regardless of Rose vs. Evans, it’s cool to see one team have two solid solid rookies (the Kings).
Thank you Anon. I have been trying to tell him that for a while, but he doesn’t want to listen.
Honestly though, it is way to soon to tell. Evans is a rookie and Rose is a second year guy. In five years one can make a respectable argument.
Can you believe both Basher and Shooter thinks he’s overrated? How is ANY second year guy overrated?
He’s overrated because everyone, including you, talks about him way too much for a second year player. Way too much. Also I’d have to disagree about Rose being faster, a better shooter and a better passer. Rose may be a better decision maker but that’s because he has one NBA year under his belt. Evans is the complete package at PG; size, strength, speed, court vision. When it’s all over for both of these guys Evans will prevail over Rose… see me in 13 years.
