Rockets Trade for Kevin Martin! T-Mac to Sac-Town… or New York!
*Scroll down to see the most recent updates!
The Houston Rockets have agreed in principle to acquire Kevin Martin from the Sacramento Kings. Kenny Thomas, Hilton
Armstrong, and Sergio Rodriguez will join Martin in Houston. In return, Tracy McGrady will land either in Sacramento or New York.
That’s right, sources state that the Knicks may be involved as a third party in this trade. Tracy McGrady, Carl Landry, and Joey Dorsey will be joining the Kings and/or Knicks by the deadline. It is unknown who the Knicks have thrown into the fold at this point.
McGrady landing in New York is the goal, however the Kings and Rockets have a deal in place just in case New York is unable to come to terms with each team. I can tell you for sure that Landry will definitely land on Sacramento, or else this deal would make zero sense for them.
It is being speculated, that in the fact that Sacramento is forced to take McGrady, they would look to buy out his contract, making him a free agent! Whew!
Keep in mind, the details could change in the coming hours, but a deal is 95% likely to get done.
Check back to the bottom of this post for an update if it happens!

UPDATE (2/18 12:44PM) - It is being reported that Sacramento is trying to pry David Lee in their discussions with this deal. I believe Lee has a no trade clause as a part of his current deal so that would make this seem unlikely. Stay Tuned.
UPDATE (2/18 1:19PM) – Tracy McGrady will be a Knick. The three team trade involves approximately 15 players. More news to come!
UPDATE (2/18 1:24PM)- Tracy McGrady and PG Sergio Rodriguez will head to NY. Houston gets Kevin Martin, Jordan Hill, Jared Jeffries, and the right to swap first rounders with the Knicks in 2011 (and take NY’s 2012 first rounder!). Sacramento will get Carl Landry, Joey Dorsey, and the Knick’s Larry Hughes. Whew!
UPDATE: (2/18 1:43PM)- The picks from NY going to HOU are protected to a degree. The 2011 pick is protected if it’s the first overall pick, while the 2012 pick is protected if it’s a top 5 pick.
FYI - A more detailed, and clear, post is coming later once the trade is completely finalized. Check back for our take on this massive trade!

I can only imagine what T-Mac is thinking right now:
“Hmm.. Sacramento or New York. Yeah, I think I’ll go with New York”
haha
According to various sources… this trade just went through.
The Knicks have nothing to do with trade and will not be able to relieve Jared Jeffries’ massive contract.
The aforementioned names are all involved and were cleared this morning.

Does anyone else wonder what the shot distribution for the Rockets will be like?
2010 Averages:
A. Brooks 7 3p attempts per game
T. Ariza 6 3p attempts per game
K. Martin 5 3p attempts per game
S. Battier 4 3p attempts per game
C. Budinger 3 3p attempts per game
This seems like it will be an overly perimiter focused team. Too bad they don’t have a 7’5″ All Star Center to balance the offense out a little bit.
“Too bad they don’t have a 7?5? All Star Center to balance the offense out a little bit.”
This made me laugh out loud. Man, I can’t wait to see how this all works out. I think losing Landry could bite them in the booty.
The Rockets got worse. Somehow.

Can you guys tell the future or are you posting from Nova Scotia or something? I am on the east coast and its only 1:57 PM haha.
I don’t even know what you’re talkin about…I see 1:43 up there haha!
Jesus this trade is insane. Usually when teams trade picks it’s like “eh, who cares the guy can be a flop” but with the Knicks they NEVER protect their picks! WTF. So one pick is protected if it’s first overall but if it’s 2-30 then Houston can have him? Wow, they are retarded.
How are they retarded? they moved in front of Miami and New Jersey in cap room for this summer. They can now go after both James and Bosh. I always said they can’t get one of them with the cap room they had. Now, it’s different. My hat gets tipped off to Donnie Walsh to making things happen.
On the Houston Side, if I could give a team a grade higher than an A+ than I would. Amazing. Two first round draft picks and Kevin Martin. They have now put themselves into a position to make the playoffs this year and build a strong foundation for their future.
How much more can you ask?
Phenomenal trade
Harrington, Hughes, Lee and Nate all had expiring contracts regardless of whether or not they were traded so there’s your cap space but now they lose out on picks.
the picks they traded should be meaningless very late first rounders… the plan is lebron and bosh. this is the first smart thing walsh has done in a while. if those picks are lottery picks walsh would have already been fired and publically executed. he had nothing to lose there. jordan hill was a mistake. his hair looks like a pineapple.
Basher if you looked at the numbers, than you would know that before this trade, they could only go after one player. One player was not going to go there by themself.
Now, Bosh and James is highly possible because everyone knows that they are a packaged deal. With all of those playeyrs expiring, it wasn’t enough. This deal is making things that were once a fantasy for Knicks fans to a feasible reality.
Check the numbers ‘Stat Guru’ hahaha
btw, sergio rodriguez could be the most underrated part of this deal.
I know the numbers and I know it opens up the scenario for 2 big players but it’s the Knicks… it won’t happen.

Here’s my thoughts on why I have a bad feeling about this, for New York.
1. I understand this clears space for two max value players, but in my opinion this puts the Knicks at a huge risk. What happens if Wade, Bosh, LeBron, and Joe Johnson all decide to stay put?? The Knicks play in New York…the mecca…whatever…but at the same time, other teams have positioned themselves well to lure these guys (Miami, Chicago, LA Clippers). I know there are other free agents out there, like Rudy Gay….but New York didn’t clear all of this cap space for the Rudy Gays.
2. Secondly, my other issue is that in the NBA, two of the most underrated things that go into great team is having a great coach, and chemistry. When I say great coach, I’m not talking about X’s and O’s, but more-so in the ability to handle superstar egos. D’Antoni has had problems with Marbury, Nate Robinson, and Larry Hughes among others…and none of them are superstars. Chemistry wise, it’s going to be hard for this team to be successful returning four players from this years roster, along with all of next year’s additions.
I do respect that the Knicks have a clear plan at what they’re trying to do, but the problem is that the plan relies on a lot of uncertainty.
Well stated G, I really have no argument against that.
Change is always a risk, but for once, the Knicks are putting themselves in the right position.
Honestly, I have a bad feeling too. I really feel Bosh and Lebron are going to Chicago.
But to contradict myself, I have a bad feeling because the Knicks have tore my heart into a thousand pieces. My feelings are therefore, tainted.
