LBJ lifts Cavs Over Magic, Spurs Cruise Past Nuggets, and More!
As the final games come to a close before the heralded All-Star Break, we had two exciting games left on the Docket.
Cleveland had to look past a 40 point second quarter by the Magic, but LeBron took matters into his own hands. If his 32 points wasn’t impressive enough, his 13 assists was. He made his entire team better on this night, with J.J. Hickson (20 pts), Anderson Varejao (16), Daniel Gibson (11) and Shaq (10) all scoring in double figures in the win. LBJ also scored 7 points straight in the final 3 minutes to help the Cavs put the game away.
For the Magic, their starting guards and forwards did not have a good night shooting the ball. Jameer Nelson, Rashard Lewis, and VC combined shot 36 percent from the field (16-44), which will not win you games. Dwight Howard probably had the best game with 19 points, 11 rebounds and 2 blocks.
INCRBL – Foul shooting. If you’ve read any of my posts before, the one thing that drives up my blood pressure is foul shooting. I had very, very low expectations for this game considering Shaq and Dwight were both at the line. As expected, the game plan was to foul these guys (there were 43 in the entrie game), but both teams shot over 70 percent from the free throw line! INCRBL!
All I can say is, “Whoa. What Spurs team hit the floor last night?”
I am not a fan of the Spurs (they rub me the wrong way, they always have), but I have to admit this is a huge road win. They go on the road to Denver – a team playing at the top of their game right now, with big wins over LA and Utah recently – and dominate in every category. Granted, the Nuggets were probably playing their worst basketball all year (they shot 15% from the 3-point line) and appeared to be coasting into the all-star break. Either way, this was a badly needed win for San Antonio.
Surprisingly, Dejuan Blair had the best game for San Antonio. He scored 17 points and collected 9 rebounds in only 21 minutes of action off the bench. In total, the Spurs had 7 players in double figures, including all 5 starters. That is how you spread the wealth. George Hill (17/6) and Tim Duncan (16/7) also helped lead the Spurs to victory.
Nene (20 points), Carmelo (19) and Billups (17) led the way for the Nuggets, but didn’t get much help after that.
BONUS – ITS ABOUT TIME! INCRBL! Congrats to David Lee for being selected to play for the Eastern Conference All-Stars. He will replace Allen Iverson, who A) shouldn’t have been voted in, and B) shouldn’t have been voted in. AI will take leave to tend to a personal matter.
You deserve it David, but it shouldn’t have taken an injury to get you on the roster. Now, lets drop a double-double in the All-Star Game and show them whats up!
Also, Kobe Bryant will not be playing in the All-Star game, and will be replaced by Jason Kidd.
Enjoy the All-Star break everyone! See you next week.
