Fantasy Update: Post Trade Deadline
A few games have past since the trade deadline giving players both new and old to their respective teams a chance to settle in. Today I am going to highlight three players who will excel the rest of the way for your fantasy team.
1. Tracy McGrady – If T-Mac can stay healthy for the remainder of the season, he has a chance to perform extremely well in Coach Mike D’Antoni’s system. In his first game at the Garden against the Oklahoma City Thunder, McGrady put up 26 points and 5 assists. T-Mac has even shown that when he struggles, like the way he did against the Celtics (6 points), McGrady was able to dish out 8 assists. The Knicks will give him a chance to show them was he’s got, but it is up to him to deliever.
2. Andray Blatche – Now Blatche did not get traded at the deadline, but his teammates Caron Butler, Antawn Jamison, and Brendan Haywood did. Since the trade, Blatche has scored over twenty points in four of the five games. He has also grabbed at least ten rebounds in three of those games. Blatche is averaging 10 points and 5 rebounds a game this year, but his numbers will dramatically increase here on out.
NOTE: If Blatche is taken in your fantasy league give Al Thornton a look. With Josh Howard’s season ending injury, Thornton will start and play the majority of the minutes at small forward.
3. Brendan Haywood – Brendan Haywood was shipped along with Caron Butler and DeShawn Stevenson to the Dallas Mavericks. Eric Dampier is out indefinitely meaning Haywood is now the Mavs starting center. Since the trade Haywood has had a 20 rebound night, two games where he blocked 5 shots, and has scored in double figures in every game. Haywood will benefit from having Jason Kidd feeding him for some easy buckets on offense which should motivate him to continue his outstanding performance since the trade.
Keep in Mind: If you have players like Kevin Martin and Antwan Jamison look for their fantasy numbers to take a minor hit. Martin will be primarily come off the bench for the Rockets and Jamison will be the Cavaliers number two or three scorer depending on the night behind LeBron James and possibly Mo Williams or Shaquille O’Neal.
