Durant Denied of Streak and the Rim!
Let me set the scene for you:
Thunder down by one point, 3 minutes left in the fourth quarter in a fierce battle between OKC and San Antonio. Kevin Durant comes up with a steal and looks to coast down the court for a quick dunk and the lead.
GINOBILI! thought otherwise…!
The Spurs’ superhero raced down the court and absolutely rejected Durant’s dunk attempt with no fear. Not only did this rejection prevent the Spurs from losing the lead (in a game they eventually won), but it contributed to the end of Durant’s 29-game streak of 25 points or more. To put it in perspective, it is the longest streak since Michael Jordan had 40 straight games of 25 or more in 1986-87.
It’s not that Durant had a bad game. He still had 21 points, 12 rebounds, but it was on 7-19 shooting from the field. However, Ginobili had 26 points off the bench and one HUGE STUFF!
“I was more expecting to be dunked on, to tell you the truth,” Ginobili said.
