What to Watch for: Jan 11 – 18

You don’t want to miss the NBA action this week, because there are a TON of great games and matchups! Don’t take my word for it? Check it out here!

Monday

Hawks @ Celtics – The Hawks have dominated this series so far this season by winning in both Boston and Atlanta. The Celtics look to avenge a loss from last week in a battle between two of the better teams in the East (yes, the Hawks are still good…no matter what The Ref says).

Tuesday

Clippers @ Grizzlies – Don’t ask me why, but I love this matchup. They already had a great game earlier in the season, but each team is getting better and better. Baron Davis vs. OJ Mayo. Chris Kaman vs. Marc Gasol. Battle of some smalls and some bigs. Let’s GO.

Lakers @ Spurs – The two best teams from the previous decade square off in San Antonio on Tuesday. Can the Spurs compete against one of the best teams in the NBA? Are the Lakers recent road woes put behind them? Can’t wait to see!

Magic @ Kings – I sometimes wonder if the Magic should be considered one of the elite teams in the NBA. But why Shooter? I’ll tell ya why: it’s because they’re so inconsistent! This is a trap game for them though, mostly because the Kings are soooo good at home.

Wednesday

Spurs @ Thunder – If you listen to our podcast, you’ll be surprised as to who everyone picked in this game. Ok, maybe it’s not shocking that we all picked this team, but it is shocking that we all picked ONE team! Take a listen!

Lakers @ Mavericks – The Lake Show embarrassed the Mavs last Sunday in LA. Payback in Big D?

Magic @ Nuggets – The western road trip continues for Orlando as they visit the mile high city. I hope Melo and VC are each back for this game because I’d like to see these two teams duke it out at full strength!

Thursday

Bulls @ Celtics – This matchup should get me more excited after last year’s epic battle in the first round, but this year…? Nah, not so much. But, there’s only two games on Thursday night, so tune into TNT to see this game!

Cavs @ Jazz – Think LeBron would like to have Carlos Boozer back on his team? I’m just sayin, maybe LeBron could convince him that Cleveland could be a good home for him again. As for the game, the Cavs will look to stay above water in Salt Lake City.

Friday

Suns @ Hawks – Both teams have something to prove here. The Suns are one of the best in the West, but can they win on the road? The Hawks are one of the best in the East, but can they put up a win streak? Gotta wait and see…

Heat @ Rockets – I’m a bit disappointed that we highlighted this game in our podcast, but I guess its a few good teams battling in Houston. D-Wade better bring it though, cause the Rockets can be really good.

Clippers @ Lakers – Rematch from last week’s surprising Clip victory. This time, the Lakers are the home team (schedule-wise). Think the Lakers will romp? YES.

Saturday

Spurs @ Grizzlies – I’m becoming obsessed with the Grizzlies – is that weird? I want to highlight all of their games, so I will tell you now that this is a game that you do not want to miss!

Sunday

Jazz @ Nuggets – The Jazz are battling to stay alive in the West, meanwhile, the Nuggets are still trying to prove that their drop the last few weeks was strictly injury-related.

Matchups of the Week

Brandon Jennings vs. Steve Nash – On Monday in Phoenix, the future meets the present, from a point guard standpoint at least. I was fortunate enough to see Jennings last week in New Jersey and he really is the real deal. He hustles and plays such hard defense that it makes it amazing to even think he has time to score points. Gotta love Nash’s consistency – something Jennings will certainly strive for.

Dwyane Wade vs. Kevin Durant – On Friday in the OKC, two of the flashiest scorers in the NBA duel each other. D-Wade and KD have the potential to drop 40 points on any night and can be depended on to really carry their teams. I would say at least 70 points will be scored between the two of them in this game. I know there’s a few people on the NBAtoday staff that can’t wait for this matchup!

Dirk Nowitzki vs. Chris Bosh – Talk about an underrated matchup. I’m going to do my best to ensure this one is not overlooked because it truly is a great pair of leaders and scoring big men. Each could be free agents at year end, but neither have anything to prove at the NBA level. Each have a knack for being a thorn in the sides of their oppenents and both are not afraid to have the ball in their hands at the end of the game. Satisfied?

1 of 2 things will happen this week. Kobe Bryant is going to go OFF or he’s going to continue to struggle.

All the talk about him being tired, and playing poorly due to his hand injury is going to spur him into ridiculousness OR the critics could be right.

I don’t know what to think, but I will say he’s shooting very poor over the recent slate of games and the Lakers have some heavy hitters this week as you stated above.

BANG BANG! (just cause I felt like it.)
