NBA Suspends Wizards G Arenas Indefinitely
NBA commissioner David Stern has suspended Wizards G Gilbert Arenas indefinitely for his poor judgment in bringing guns to the arena. Well, not just that, but also for the report of pulling a gun out on teammate Javaris Crittenton in the locker room. Whether or not that was true (which Arenas says was done as a joke), Arenas is creating an unfortunate image for NBA players and a poor model for children to follow.
I was surprised that Stern didn’t make this decision sooner. I expected Arenas to be suspended indefinitely before all of the facts came out, because they knew something happened, even if they didn’t know exactly what. The fact that gambling was put into this just makes matters worse for Arenas.
Arenas has been seen smiling and joking around in the last week since the initial reports of a ‘draw’ with Crittenton came out. He says this is because he doesn’t want to be depressed about it, but it sort of makes him seem arrogant. Stern was originally waiting until the Washington, D.C. District Attorney completed their investigation, but I’m assuming he felt pressured to do something since Arenas continued to play full games.
Gilbert will not be paid during this suspension, and he will miss out on $147,208 per game. (That could buy a lot of ammo.)
So what does this mean for the Washington Wizards? Well, where do you start? This was not a good team, even with Arenas in the lineup. He has played exceptionally well over the last couple of weeks, and they still have struggled to win games. So it wouldn’t be hard to imagine that they would make some crazy moves.
They would love to dump Arenas’ salary somehow because he has proved himself to be a liability to the organization. He is the most talented player on the team, but he has been injured the last few years, and now this mess. Meanwhile, he is one of the highest paid players in the NBA. As for the rest of the team, they have a few expendable players due to their situation. Antawn Jamison, Brendan Haywood, and Caron Butler. They all have contracts that are basically wasting the organization’s money at this point. Don’t be surprised if any or all of them get traded before the February deadline, whether to a contender or a team looking to build for next year.
Nevertheless, Arenas is now out of the Wizards lineup for some period of time. I doubt he will be back this season.

This is crazy Shooter. For anyone following him on Twitter, Gilbert went off the deep end last night. He started going after Al Sharpton and everyone else who was criticizing him. He made a grave mistake that may cost him his career and instead of feeling bad about it and facing the facts, he is trying to blame other people and make a joke out of it.
I am a fan of Gilbert Arenas, but I am honestly very disappointed. There are things to joke about, but when it comes to guns it is no joke. The other disappointing thing about this is that this happened after late owner Abe Pollin’s death. Pollin has done all he could to try to build a successful franchise in Washington, D.C., and even changed the team name from the Bullets to help bolster the teams image.
Gilbert this is no joke, and for millions of people like me who would do anything to get a chance to play basketball professionally, you really messed up on this one.
It’s time for the Randy Foye era. I don’t get how this team isn’t good, with the roster and coach that they have.
