Mark Cuban: Always Finding Something to Complain About

6 January 2010 60 views 14 Comments

Mark Cuban, complain?

I know how weird that sounds, but by golly, he really did complain (again). This time, Cuban isn’t upset with the NBA, who he more or less thinks is out to get him, but he was complaining about the NFL of all things!

The NFL scheduled a first-round home playoff game for the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday night, which happens to be at the same time as the Mavericks’ home game against the Utah Jazz. So of course, he can’t just accept this:

“I know we’re just little pissants compared to the NFL, but seriously, the NFL is turning into the ugly American when it comes to sports leagues. They don’t give a crap about anybody but themselves.”

Let me get this straight. You feel the NFL doesn’t give a crap about anybody but themselves. Ok…umm… have you ever heard yourself talk?

Cuban is most known for being a ‘fan’ that now owns a team, and he loves to pass his ‘love’ of the sport to the fans in order to give them the best experience they can have. But since he is his own best fan, he ends up doing what he thinks is best, even if it’s just flat out annoying. Cuban will not hesitate to throw a hissy fit if a call doesn’t go his team’s way or even run onto a court to complain to a ref.

In this case, Cuban has to just shut his mouth. The NBA is not as big as the NFL and obviously the league wants to get the best draw they can get, which is a Cowboys playoff game. To think that they HAVE to consider the Mavericks before scheduling a game is just selfish. Not only that, but the Mavs have already sold out the game, making it 334 consecutive sellouts. So what’s the issue? Just making some extra dough for the wallet of Cuban.

Maybe you should tackle winning a championship before you tackle the NFL.

Pun intended.

BANG BANG!

I agree with Cuban here, the NFL should have conisered that, but didn’t, simple as that. Any owner would have complained, but since it is Mark Cuban, we’ll hear about it. Of course, because Cuban allows us to hear about. However, he does have every right to be upset, and Shooter, if you were owner, you would be worry about the money as well. That’s his job.

If I was an owner I’d also worry about my image, because it reflects the image of his organization, team, and players.

I root against the Mavs every single night because of Cuban.

I agree with Shooter. We are comparing an NFL playoff game to a regular season NBA game that is already sold out. What’s the argument here?

Cuban has the worst public imagine for an owner in the NBA. I probably couldn’t even name more than 5 NBA owners but I sure as heck know Mark Cuban and for all the wrong reasons too.

I gotta agree with The Ref on this one.

I think the fact that you know who he is gives him one of the best images of any owner.

You say you know who he is for all the wrong reasons but do you remember the Dallas Mavericks before Cuban became the owner? No? Me neither. They were basement dwellers. One of the worst franchises in sports.

Since then they almost won a championship and consistently win 50 games a year. Cuban’s had a little something to do with that.

I like the passion that Cuban brings to the game. Yea he can be a whiny crybaby sometimes but at least he acts like he cares. Wouldn’t you want the nets to have an outspoken passionate owner like Cuban?

  • Shooter (author) said:

Yes, I would want the Nets to have a passionate owner, but at the same time, he really should avoid being a jerk.

I totally agree that the Mavs were nothing before him. But owners of other teams come into leagues and fix what was wrong. The LA Angels owner, Arte Moreno, took over that team when they were terrible. He fixed what was wrong and I am happy for him and the franchise. He never had to be a jerk or put HIMSELF in the limelight for doing so.

No matter how much he loves his team and is a man of the people, he will always put himself before the fans.

In this case, is he upset that his fans can’t go to the game? NO, he is upset that he may not get a full draw in the arena. That = money.

  • The Basher said:

Yeah I agree Tom that it makes he known because he is vocal but he is an idiot. He speaks before he thinks and he probably regrets half the things he says without admitting it obviously. It’s one thing to be passionate, it’s another thing to be a jerk about it.

Me: Mark Cuban is so stupid..

    Crowd: How stupid is he?

Me: Mark Cuban is so stupid that he went from being an average college kid to a billionaire in like 5 years.

Calling him an idiot is asinine. I’m sorry, idiots don’t build from scratch to become billionaires.

He is one of the smartest owners in the NBA. The fact that you have an NBA blog and can’t name 5 owners is pretty rediculous, but the fact that Cuban is one of the ones you know makes him a genius. He is probably one of the top 5 most recognizable owners in sports with Steinbrenner and Jerry Jones. No press is bad press is almost always true, and in this case it is 100% true.

He has added intrigue to a meaningless NBA regular season game. The Colts play next saturday at the same time as the Pacers home game, but I bet you didn’t know that. He knows the NFL wouldn’t change their game time, but now more people are likely to tune in to or come to the Mavs game because of what he said.

This happens all the time (as far as overscheduling games). Ratner didn’t complain when I was one of like 600 people to see the Nets play the Nuggets during a game of the World Series. More people in the arena were cheering for yankee updates than the nets scoring anyway. The same will be true this saturday in Dallas.

  • Shooter (author) said:

I never called him an idiot. He isn’t an idiot, but he obviously doesn’t mind the bad PR (in this case, I’d agree no PR is the only bad PR). I just don’t like his demeanor and smugness.

I think it’s pretty clear that I have a personal opinion of Mark Cuban, which is that I don’t like him. I blame him for that, not me. Just because a guy made himself into a billionaire from nothing doesn’t mean I have to like him, right?

(does anyone remember that this guy also was a big participant of insider trading??)

Oh ok, well as long as you’re not quoting me. I’m trying to make a good argument to support my opinion here, haha.

I agree with Mike on this one. Cuban’s a lot smarter than people think. He might come off as someone who is a bit of a crybaby and yes, he does let his emotions get in the way. But I think that he knows when to pick his battles.

I think he’s hated more because he’s living the dream that all of us wish we could fulfill…he owns his favorite team.
