Knicks Squeak by in Philly; Hawks Fly By Wiz; Boston Embarrasses Nets
Knicks 93, 76ers 92
Well I guess whatever hotel the Knicks stayed at last night was not haunted. David Lee’s layup off a pass by Chris Duhon, with 11 seconds left gave the Knicks a 93 to 92 lead. The Sixers had one last chance to win when Allen Iverson passed out to Rodney Carney for an open trey that was no good. David Lee finished with 24 points and 9 rebounds in the win and Al Harrington had 17 points and 7 rebounds off the bench for the New York Knicks. Jared Jefferies was also one rebound shy of a double-double (15 and 9). Samuel Dalembert, who’s country, Hati, is in crisis, left it all out on the floor. Dalembert had 12 points and 21 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end. Allen Iverson led the Sixers with 16 points while Lou Williams struggled going one for seven in the game. Dalembert told the NBAtv staff that he was able to contact his father in Haiti, but he admitted it has been extremely difficult to get in touch with family members during this tough time. He also said he has a foundation focusing on helping the children in Hati, which will now help the individuals who need help after the earthquake.
Hawks 94, Wizards 82
Down 12 points at halftime, the Wizards did not put up much of a fight losing by the same amount, 94 to 82. Joe Johnson led the Hawks with 24 points and Jamal Crawford had another stellar game off the bench putting in 22 points of his own. Antwan Jamison continues to play hard night in and night out. If he gets traded to a contender, he may be part of a championship run. Tonight Jamison had 25 points and 19 rebounds. He did everything he could to give the Wizards a chance to be in the game. Caron Butler and Brendan Haywood both had double-doubles in the loss.
Celtics 111, Nets 87
In no way was this game as close as the score indicates. Up 71 to 35 at half, the Celtics decided to rest all of their starters by the end of the third quarter. The Nets’ starters were able to cut the lead to twenty points in the second half against the Celtics’ second unit. Paul Pierce led the Celtics with 24 points and Rajon Rondo had a double-double putting up 11 points and 14 assists. The disappointing Nets were led by Yi Jianlian’s 19 points. The problem with Yi was that he was 1-7 in the first half, and then went 5 for 5 in garbage time to make it look like he had a decent night. Brook Lopez had 18 points and 10 rebounds. It is a shame that the Nets came out in their own arena against a Celtic team still without Kevin Garnett, and were not in the game from the opening tip. I hope the fans that went to the game were compensated in some way.
Pacers 122, Sun 114
Danny Granger and Mike Dunleavy came to play against the uptempo Phoenix Suns. Granger had 33 points and Dunleavy dropped 30 in a game where the Pacers were down 20 points and fought their way back for the win. Granger and Dunleavy combined to hit nine of sixteen three point attempts, which helped the Pacers get back into the game. Amare Stoudemire led the Suns with 21 points. Steve Nash, who had the leave the game due to a Earl Watson inadvertent elbow but later returned, scored 20 points and dished out 9 assists. Leandro Barbosa struggled shooting three of eleven off the bench finishing with 11 points.
Hornets 108, Clippers 94
Upon hearing the news about Blake Griffin being out for the season, the Clippers could not muster enough energy to win tonight’s contest. Chris Paul amazed the crowd and the Clippers finishing with 15 points and 15 assists. Paul was able to get Peja Stojakovic open helping him hit 4 threes and Peja scored 20 points in total. Marcus Camby could not buy a basket going two for nine in the game, but he grabbed 10 offensive and 10 defensive rebounds to finish with 20 in total. Baron Davis, fresh off of his triple-double scored 19 points and had 6 assists.
