Fantasy Update: Wizards Edition
We all know by now that Gilbert Arenas is suspended indefinitely from the NBA, and if he was on your fantasy season you might be in trouble. Today I am going to look at three Washington Wizards guards who will need to step their game in Agent 0′s absence. I am going to predict their numbers from here on out and let you know if they are worth picking up.
1. Earl Boykins – In the Wizards first game in their post Arenas era, Earl Boykins got the starting nod. In 19 minutes Boykins shot an efficient 5 for 7 and finished with 10 points and 6 assists.
My Prediction: We know Earl can light it up from his days in Denver. I see him playing 20-25 minutes a game and putting up similar numbers to last night. I think he will average 11 points and 5 assists a game here on out. I would pick him up if you are desperate for a point guard or are in a deep league.
2. Nick Young – Nick Young also started last night for the Washington Wizards. As a young player he is growing and getting better on a daily basis. He also has a sweet but streaky stroke. Last night he played 37 minutes, struggling shooting 5 of 18.
My Prediction: I think in the long run Nick Young will be a solid scorer, but right now he will go through growing pains. With the Wizards now in rebuilding mode, Young will get lots of playing time and will take plenty of shots. I think by the end of the season Young will be averaging 15 points and if you need a scorer, he may be an option. Just be aware that if you pick up Young your team’s shooting percentage may take a hit.
3. Randy Foye – Although he did not start last night, Randy Foye played the best out of the Wizards guards. In 29 minutes off the bench, Foye dropped 18 points on 7 of 12 shooting. He also hit two three pointers (2-5 from three) in the game.
My Prediction: Out of all three guards, I am highest on Randy Foye. He is a pure scorer that can finish at the basket and also shoot fairly well from three. He is a guard that can rack up rebounds along with assists. At any time he can go off for 25 and I think by season’s end he may be starting. I think he will play 25 to 30 minutes a game and again, if the Wizards trade Caron Butler and/or Antwan Jamison, players like Foye and Young will get more time and will be counted on to score.
Here is one more Wizard player to look at in a few weeks.
Andray Blatche – When Jamison was out to start the season, Blatche showed glimpses of how good he could potentially be. He is a 6’11 center with very good handles and decent passing ability. If they do trade Jamison, he will start and play thirty plus minutes a game. If he gets that opportunity expect him to be a double-double machine.
