2010 Sprite Dunk Contest Participants Released

18 January 2010 519 views 4 Comments

The 2010 Sprite Slame Dunk Contestants were released today inside of Penn Station in NYC.  A few days ago it was announced that DeMar DeRozan and Eric Gordon will star in the first ever dunk-off which will take place February 12th during the Rookie Challenge and Youth Jam event.  Joining either DeRozan or Gordon are 2009 defending champion (as well as 2006 champ) Nate Robinson, alongside Gerald Wallace and SHANNON BROWN.  I put Shannon Brown in caps because the dude pulls out dunk contest dunks in regular season games!

It will be an exciting dunk contest, that’s fo’ sho’.  Nate Robinson is only one of five players to win the even twice (Jordan, Jason Richardson, Dominique and Harold Minor).  Nate would be the first ever 3-time champ (I know Shooter could care less, even moreso because he is a Knick)!

Participant Team Position Height Weight
Shannon Brown Lakers G 6’4” 205
Nate Robinson Knicks G 5’9” 180
Gerald Wallace Bobcats F 6’7” 220
DeMar DeRozan* Raptors G 6’7” 220
Eric Gordon* Clippers G 6’3” 222

*Competing in Dunk-off on Feb. 12th

Prediction: Despite a great effort from Gerald Wallace (finally the Bobcats are getting some street cred in the NBA) he will not make it to the finals.  It will be Robinson vs. Brown with Brown being the favorite due to fan hype but I’m going with Nate.  That dude has some major swagger!

Who do you think will win?

DeMar DeRoZan will win this dunk contest, and it will be great for the kid. He is going to be an awesome player to watch in two years, and the publicity will illustrate his future ability.

Starts with a ‘Le’ ends with a ‘jerk’…?

I’ve had major beef with the dunk contest ever since iguodala was robbed by Nate Robinson. This years lacks the star power, but my pick is Cannon Brown. Kids got major hops.
