What’s Bigger Than a Game? A Meaningless Record

1 December 2009 73 views 5 Comments

On Saturday night, long-time Cavaliers C Zydrunas Ilgauskas sat the bench against the Mavs. Is this news? Well, ask LeBron James if it is. Done asking? Well, then you know that it is NOW news, because ‘The King’ said so.

Head coach Mike Brown chose to sit Big Z to favor a smaller, quicker lineup that he noticed was playing well against the Mavericks. What’s the big deal? Well, Ilgauskas is currently tied with current Cavs GM Danny Ferry with 723 games played with the franchise. For whatever reason, this really peeved LeBron– “As a friend of his, I was very upset and I know he was, also.”

Big Z has declined interview requests by NBAtoday.net and the rest of the media on the matter, but LeBron continued to go on, “I’m not trying to stir up anything with coach (Brown)….What was on the line was something way bigger than us playing the Mavericks.”

WHAT?!?!?!????

LeBron, are you really trying to tell me that Zydrunas Ilgauskas taking over the all-time lead in Cavs games is bigger than the final score of the game (which, yes, the Cavs won – 111-95 – not that anyone cares about that – especially not LeBron)?

How about this tidbit – Does anyone really think Ilgauskas isn’t going to play another game in Cleveland?? This really confuses me – I mean he will undoubtedly play on Wednesday against the Suns! Why would this be such an issue to anyone? Big Z is the only one that could possibly be annoyed, and it’s only because he didn’t get into a game! It would have nothing to do with breaking a record.

I wasn’t going to go here, but you know what, let’s put this ‘record’ in perspective. Honestly, could you have guessed who the leader in all-time Cavs games was? I wouldn’t have got it right if you gave me 10 guesses, mostly because I can’t even guess 10 all-time Cavs! Think about it, what kind of history do the Cleveland Cavaliers have? Hmm…the only thing I remember about the Cleveland Cavaliers is Michael Jordan hitting that buzzer-beater over Craig Ehlo.

You know what, now that I think of it, I know why LeBron wants Big Z to get this record so soon – it’s because he’s already bought his ticket out of town making this the one record he ABSOLUTELY DOESN’T want to have.

BANG BANG!

Totally agree. I couldn’t believe what I was reading when I saw this a few days ago. Kudos to Shooter for going after James on this.

And on the last line, ZING!

Wow. That just bothers me on all levels. Maybe LeBron is just trying to stir up the locker room to give himself a better reason to leave?

Duts that is EXACTLY what I’m thinking. It’s like he’s attempting to blame others for his leaving Cleveland – in this case, it’s Mike Brown.

    gotta love this guy…NOT

Shooter…Great last line…And keep up the criticism/pressure every time LeBron The King says something stupid…which should come around again JUST ABOUT NOW!!
