Von Wafer Likely to Sign with Rockets; Przybilla Next Blazer Hurt
In a line stolen from Monty Python, “It’s only wafer thin,” perfectly describing the Rockets bench with Chase Budinger out with a sprained ankle and just a very young and inexperienced team in general, they needed to add depth. Von Wafer is about to sign with the Rockets after playing 3 games for the Olympiacos this year after leaving the NBA following his most successful season. Last year for the Rockets, Von Wafer averaged 9.7 ppg in 63 games in just 19 minutes per contest. He was about to sign with Memphis a couple days ago but felt more comfortable having already played for Rick Adelman less than a year ago. Von Wafer is like a poor man’s JR Smith; he is just instant offense with high energy. He should be a nice fit to THIS Rockets team.
For Von Wafer to sign with the Rockets he had to pay $1.2 million to buy himself out of his European contract. I’m really curious to know how much this contract to Von Wafter is going to be and how much were the Olympiacos paying him to begin with if he paid over a million to get out of Europe, damn.
Joel Przybilla is the latest Blazer who won’t be playing for awhile after he sustained a ruptured right patella tendon and a dislocated patella in the first quarter of Tuesday’s game vs. the Mavs. Somehow the Blazers still managed to win, but more importantly Przybilla is out indefinitely and this just sounds like a horrible injury. The Blazers absolutely HAVE to make a trade or sign someone; their starting center option now is down to Juwan Howard and his back up? Juwan Howard - THERE IS NO BACK UP! The Blazers are in trouble on the interior but somehow they are still winning in the West! I wish them the best and hope no one else gets hurt on this team.
