Frank a Possible Replacement in Chi-Town

Photo courtesy of Chicago Times.comAccording to NBA coaching sources (that sounds like it’s a 3rd tier source) telling ESPN.com, if the Bulls release Vinny Del Negro of his head coaching duties, they may be interested in bringing former Nets coach Lawrence Frank on board.  The Bulls are currently 8-14 and struggling mightily on the road.

My question to the Bulls is why?  My question to the NBA and it’s teams is why?  Why in the world would ANYONE want Lawrence Frank to coach another NBA team EVER.  Sure Frank may be a nice guy and a “players coach” but he doesn’t have what it takes to win in the NBA.  Not one of his Nets teams ever brought toughness to the court, they were always overmatched and overpowered.

I don’t see Frank coaching in Chicago as a good fit even if he was a good coach.  The Bulls are set up exactly like the Nets over the past 2-3 years.  The Bulls go to guy is Derrick Rose while the Nets had Devin Harris.  Then the Bulls have Noah and their rebounding big man who can also score and the Nets have Lopez in that same role.  Every other guy on each team is just a role player who has some good nights and some bad nights.  Taj Gibson is like Josh Boone, Luol Deng is like Chris Douglas-Roberts and Kirk Heinrich is like Rafer Alston.  Neither team brings enough fire power off the bench so I don’t really see how Frank would be successful in Chicago.  If they were going to replalce Del Negro with a former Nets coach, why not Byron Scott?

Byron Scott would make a lot of sense because he’s a great Point Guard Coach. He’s worked with Jason Kidd and Chris Paul, so I could only imagine what he could do with Derrick Rose.

[...] What an interesting week. The Pistons are on a five game winning streak without Ben Gordon, Tayshaun Prince, and mostly Rip Hamilton (played against Warriors last night). The Magic lose 2 tough road games, Kobe’s flu and fractured index finger combine for a loss at Utah, and Boston is running like a fine oiled machine. How terrible can the Nets and Sixers get, and if you haven’t heard, the Bulls are thinking about hiring Lawrence Frank. My boy Basher is going delve into that monstrosity. [...]
