Lou Williams Out 8 Weeks; Iverson Deal Near?
Lou Williams was having an oustanding year thus far for the Sixers. He was there go-to-guy and is the leading scorer on the team. Last year his role significantly increased on the team but this year he knew his role and that was SCORE any means possible. Lou Williams broke his jaw on November 24th vs. the Celtics which will put him on the self for 6-8 weeks. This is a huge loss for the Sixers because they looked lost half the time on offense and that’s when Sweet Lou would step in and just bang a 3-ball to keep the offense going. In additon to 17 ppg he averaged 5.1 apg, 3.5 rpg and 1.7 spg.
With the absense of Lou Williams on the Sixers, rookie Jrue Holiday has stepped into the starting PG role. That is a tough task at hand for Holiday and will be difficult for the Sixers to compete for a playoff spot even in the Eastern Conference. This brings up the debate of whether the Sixers will try and bring back Allen Iverson to the city of brotherly love. Stephen A. Smith has reported that the Sixers may sign the original AI as early as next week. Many people in the Sixers organization are fully supportive of the idea including Eddie Jordan. The question now is will the Sixers try to let Holiday get on the job training as the future PG and have AI mentor him or will AI demand to start on this team too?
I think AI absolutely needs to start on the depleting Sixers team and Holiday and be a solid backup and learn from AI without having to start. That brings up the next point as whether or not AI will accept a bench role when Williams comes back? I feel that if AI had to come off the bench for one team in the NBA, he would do it for the Philadelphia 76ers and that’s it.
