Holy Blowouts! Warriors and Hornets Cruise, Makes for Bad TV

It was a night to forget for the Timberwolves and Clippers. It was also a night for me to forget I was watching NBA TV.

<begin rant>
Both teams were poorly outscored by halftime, to the point where NBA TV would rather show their trbl tv interview of John Schuhmann’s power rankings. To my disgust, I couldn’t decide which was worse – Brent Barry telling John Schuhmann he should work for TMZ, or Schuhmann’s defense in putting the Sun’s at #1 in his interview – and I paraphrase – “If Celtics, Lakers, and Magic were supposed to be ranked all year 1,2,3 then this article wouldn’t be fun.” At that point, I couldn’t stand either of them talking for more than 5 seconds. I then turned off the TV and followed the games online. I will describe this more in next weeks podcast…stay tuned!

Anyway, onto tonight’s action:

Warriors 146, Timberwolves 105

Stephen Jackson was stunning, netting a career high 15 assists in the win for the Warriors. Golden State took over the game in the second quarter with a 13-2 run, extending the lead to 19 at half. From there, it was over. Kelenna Azubuike lead all scorers with 36 points on 13-19 shooting, and the Warriors forced 28 turnovers in the blowout.

Jonny Flynn, who has impressed so far in his rookie debut, led the T’Wolves with 20 points in just under 34 minutes. Ramon Sessions also looked pretty good off the bench, providing some sort of spark that made the second half remotely worth watching. He finished with 11 points in limited time.

hrbl stat of the night…Are those crickets? I swear, the Oracle Arena might be the quietest arena in the country. The Warriors won in dominating fashion! Cheer for your team!

Hornets 112, Clippers 84

Looks like Chris Paul and the Hornets got the confidence win they were looking for. It feels like the Clippers like giving out these wins to opponents too often.

Paul was on fire, shooting 10/14 from the floor, and finished with 25 points and 10 assists. Devin Brown was clutch from behind the arc, making 5 of 8 (finished with a team high 25 points).  Hilton Armstrong looked pretty good off the bench as the blowout ensued.

The guard play alone determined the game. Chris Paul and Devin Brown outplayed Baron Davis and Rasual Butler. Davis was largely ineffective in this game, being held to 8 points on 3/10 shooting. Marcus Camby and Al Thornton were also limited, scoring a combined 14 points.

Stat of the NightI gotta have more Posey – Why is James Posey only getting 17-18 minutes a night? This player was 2 years apart from being a major contributor to the Celtics’ title run. What gives? For a quality rotation player who has never averaged lower than 24 minutes a game, why is Posey not given the opportunity for more playing time?

    I don’t think James Posey is a good player, I think he has an overrated jump shot and brings nothing else to the table other than the OCCASIONAL defensive stop but the Hornets bench is terrible. Posey definitely needs to be this team’s 6th man.
