Jordan’s Son Follows His Father’s Shoes… ‘Hrbl’y
For those of you who didn’t know, Michael Jordan has a son, Marcus, who plays college basketball for the University of Central Florida. And for those of you who didn’t know, UCF has a contract with Adidas which forces their players to lace up in their sponsor’s shoes.
Why is this a big deal? Well, Marcus Jordan doesn’t feel the school’s six-year, $3 million contract with Adidas is very important to the school. Marcus is refusing to wear Adidas shoes in favor of his father’s Air Jordans, which could very well cost his school a void in the contract as a sponsor.
FYI – this is not a new issue in question. Marcus Jordan knew Adidas was the sponsor of UCF and he even said during the recruiting process, “I wear the Adidas gear that I’ve been given. It is what it is.” Looks like it isn’t any longer.
So what does the UCF coach, Krik Speraw, think about this predicament? He is defending Marcus Jordan! I have no real evidence to back this up, but I’m going to say that you should never go against Michael Jordan in any issue, because you will lose. The man is just too influential and too powerful. But why support a freshman player that is obviously selfish in going against the grain of his own team. It really just boggles my mind.
Obviously, it has to be tough to be Michael Jordan’s son, with a whole bunch of unlivable expectations; however, this is not making me feel ANY sympathy for him at all. I’m assuming his father is giving him this hrbl advice, mostly to promote his shoe company – which needs NO promotion. Really, this whole thing makes me sick.
Historically, father Jordan has refused to promote other shoe companies, despite his own company’s success. In the ’92 Olympics, Jordan covered the Reebok logo, Team USA supplier, with an American flag. Even recently, Jordan covered a Reebok logo on a Blackhawks jersey that he wore at a Chicago hockey game while he waved to the crowd.
I guess genetics is a powerful thing.

MJ is an asshole, flatout. And His son is a selfish jerk. I read something where he said he wants to represent his father blah blah. Right, like MJ needs more representation AND more money. Come on, this is a joke. If I was coach I would NOT support that. You are a team player, not MJ himself.
This is being blown out of proportion, just because of who it involves. As a previous college athlete, we were also sponsored by adidas, but none of us ran in the Adidas products, because we didn’t like them. The company didn’t notice and our coach didn’t care.
The same could be said for our basketball team.
