It Must be the Shoes: Part 2 of 3 (Jordan and Adidas)

In part one, we took a look at Nike brand basketball products, because a large portion of the league wears their shoes. However, today we will take a look at the brand of arguably the greatest player of all time, and the brand that is the official outfitter for the NBA.

JORDAN BRAND

Michael Jordan was a pioneer not only in how he played, but also in the fact that he was granted his own shoe contract. More than 20 years later, and after he’s in the Hall of Fame, his brand is still alive and cooking.

The Jordan Brand has a “team” of players used to wear their products. This team includes Ray Allen, Carmelo Anthony, D.J. Augustin, Michael Finley, Joe Johnson, Chris Paul, Dwyane Wade, and even Bobby Simmons among others. These players will wear any and all different types of Jordan’s in their team’s colors. Jealousy from a sneakerhead like myself arises immediately upon seeing Ray Allen in Celtic colored Jordans that don’t even exist in stores!

However, Carmelo Anthony has his own specific Jordan shoe called the Jordan M6. Expect these out around the holiday season, unless you’re Carmelo Anthony:

Also, coming out midseason will be the Jordan 2010, which most of the Jordan Brand players will wear:

So now that we’re done with Nike this, and Jordan that, let’s move on to the official outfitter of the NBA. That’s right, Adidas. If Adidas provides all the warm-up suits and uniforms, than it would be obvious that they provide shoes for a lot of the league’s best.

ADIDAS

Adidas currently has a few new models among others designed for players of different positions. Adidas sponsors many players including Derrick Rose, Tracy McGrady, Raymond Felton, and Nene among others.  The new models Adidas offers consist of the TS Commander series:

Players that will wear these: Adidas sponsored Big Men such as Dwight Howard, Tim Duncan, and Kevin Garnett. It’s hard not to notice these in a game when Howard is playing because his feet are so big.

TS Bounce Commander ($89.99)

Players that will wear these: The same big men above may wear this, but Kevin Garnett definitely wears these the most. They remind me of the “Shox” series for Nike which are supposedly helpful for saving knees. Guess that’s why KG rocks ‘em.

TS Cut Commander ($109.99)

Players that will wear these: Various guards and small forwards will wear these such as Chauncey Billups, Eric Gordon, and Rodney Stuckey.

Honestly, I had no idea who wore what shoe and I can honestly say I now know a good amount. The GarNOTS are ugly though, haha. Kobe is rockin’ addidas still, right?

Kobe has his own Nike shoe now: http://www.nbatoday.net/?p=223 ……..the best part of which led to all the LeBron-Kobe commercials last year.
